Anyone hear of this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram_Bahadur_Bomjon Ram Bahadur Bomjon (born May 9, 1989),.... is from Ratanapuri village, Bara district, Nepal and drew thousands of visitors and media attention for spending months in meditation, allegedly without food or water, although this claim is widely contested." What do you think?
Many people spend months in meditation so thats nothing new, some people do retreats for 3 years or more The no food or water for months part, I'm not so sure of
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe the body will survive after 3 days of no water......food yes, but not water. What do they figure all this meditation will get them anyways??
I'm not a believer or disbeliever, either way wouldn't necessarily shock me. I'm not religious really, maybe somewhat spiritual. But isn't it possible that a person can somehow find a way to put themselves into a type of state similar to hibernation? If animals can do it, maybe we have the capacity of doing it as well.
according to Buddhism, IF you do it correctly with a qualified teacher you will access higher & higher spiritual realms The ultimate goal of course is Enlightenment, which is the same as Nirvana. The Buddha studied and meditated for 7 years, but even he ate so I think this boy is also eating, albeit maybe not too much
Aren't there monks that have been scientifically proven to be able to raise their internal body temperatures? They have some sort of ritual every year where they venture up into the cold snow covered mountains and sleep the night outside. They survive by raising their body temperatures using some secret.
Saw that on tv a few years ago. I think the human body is capable of supernatural things, we just don't know how to tap into them.
Yes exactly...was on TV. And I agree...lots of stories of soldiers lifting 1 ton pieces of tank and metal off of their fallen comrades with the help of a large boost of adrenaline and a mother lifting a car that was on top of her child, etc.
The fat "Buddha" you see at Chinese restaurants is not THE Buddha The fat guy is actually a Buddhist Saint named Hotei THE Buddha is Sakyamuni of what is now Nepal The body can do amazing things if you know how to access those states but the mind is limitless
First of all, it's not possible to "not be a believer or disbeliever".... you believe in something, everyone does, even an atheist believes in "nothing" and that is a belief as well, it takes much more "faith" (faith by definition) to believe in nothing at all rather then to believe in something. I don't know about the hibernation thing, but I know each night as you sleep, your heart rate drastically slows down, as well as your breathing and blood flow slows down. It's about equal to a mini hibernation. Animals and humans do not have the same systems and I think they overly eat and store up fat to keep them well for that time of hiberation, they're systems are designed for hibernation, ours are not. Just like bears don't have hands, fingers and finger nails to type on forums....
I didn't mean to compare him to the real buddah. I was just pointing out, that for someone who wasn't eating, he didn't look all that thin as you would expect from someone not eating.
I believe all humans have a Spirit, but to try to manipulate that Spirit or Spiritual realm is playing God.
????????? "faith" from m-w.com (merriam-webster online dictionary) Main Entry: 1faith Pronunciation: 'fAth Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural faiths /'fAths, sometimes 'fA[th]z/ Etymology: Middle English feith, from Anglo-French feid, fei, from Latin fides; akin to Latin fidere to trust -- more at BIDE 1 a : allegiance to duty or a person : LOYALTY b (1) : fidelity to one's promises (2) : sincerity of intentions 2 a (1) : belief and trust in and loyalty to God (2) : belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion b (1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2) : complete trust 3 : something that is believed especially with strong conviction; especially : a system of religious beliefs <the Protestant faith> But any discussion of the above statement is diving into the no-no of Politics/Religion.
Mmm. Good question. Didn't really know what category this fell into. Mods of course will move it if they see fit. I thought it was more of a curiosity than anything religious.
