The 5 million = half a second is such a stupid argument thrown around by Binotto and Toto, purely to set a narrative. If that was the case, all Red Bull/Ferrari had to do since 2014 is spend 10 million more than Mercedes and they'd have been World Champions. The mega PR from winning titles would vastly outweight the 10 million spend, so it's not about not having the money. Toto/Binotto simply picked a figure that was within the 5% minor breach, and added a completely fictional number behind it and threw it around as fact. All we need to do is look at the teams' spend over the last 10 years and compare € spend to laptimes and conclude it's absolute 100% complete ********. Toto/Binotto are deflecting from their teams' failures, pure and simple.
In the dyas of spending 300 - 400 million on developing the car maybe, But when development is limited to 7 million for Ferrari and Merc ( Reported figures both have publicly came out with with Toto saying the budget for this years car is only 3.5 million, an overspend of 100k ( Didnt horner say 100k could be the difference between lifting the title and not last year?? LOL ) to 7.5 million can be huge and sway a championships if all other teams are sticking to the budget. lets just " ASSUME " Ferrari spent 7 mill, Merc 7 mill, RB 2 - 7 million more, that is huge.

The former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone (soon 92) is also of this clear opinion. They're not taking the title away from Red Bull over a minor breach of the budget cap. The idea that $1-2 million over the cap changed the outcome of the 21' or 22' championships is laughable. It's Mercedes and Ferrari pointing outward instead of inward, and learning from their mistakes. Lewis/Mercedes and Leclerc/Ferrari have simply thrown away too many races to deserve the last two titles. End of story.
Ferrari have gone from a culture of fear to a culture of no accountability. There's tons of blame to be shared at Ferrari by the drivers, strategists, design department, and of course, leadership. The lessons of 22' are clear. The drivers need to be allowed to take charge of their own strategy. Ferrari needs to develop around one driver, which is obviously Leclerc. The design department must address the issue of aero drag and tire degradation, and at a minimum minimize those weakness. Until those things happen, Ferrari will win races, but not the title.
Exactly. When people talked about Mercedes ''no blame'' culture, I don't know how that translated into Italian, but I wouldn't be surprised if the direct translation of that is ''no accountability"...
GO Zak - Cheaters lol Red Bull's F1 cost cap overspend "constitutes cheating", Brown tells FIA McLaren CEO Zak Brown has urged the FIA to act "at pace" and come down hard on Formula 1's cost cap rule breakers, declaring that overspending "constitutes cheating". By: Jonathan Noble Oct 17, 2022, 5:42 PM Image Unavailable, Please Login The FIA is currently evaluating its next steps after announcing last week that Red Bull had breached last year's cost cap limit, as well as having committed a procedural offence. Aston Martin was also found to have broken the rules with a procedural breach. Both Red Bull and Aston Martin have the option of going down an Accepted Breach Agreement if they concur with the FIA's findings, or they can choose to challenge the matter through the Cost Cap Adjudication panel. While it is not clear which route will be taken, McLaren F1 CEO Zak Brown has written to the FIA to let it be known how critical he thinks it is that the matter is not brushed under the carpet. Read Also: What happens now with F1's cost cap rule breakers? In the letter, a copy of which has been seen by Autosport, he said: "The overspend breach, and possibly the procedural breaches, constitute cheating by offering a significant advantage across technical, sporting, and financial regulations." He added: "The bottom line is any team who has overspent has gained an unfair advantage both in the current and following year's car development." Brown wrote the letter to FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali in private last week. However, the contents of the letter have emerged after Brown also sent it to all the cost cap compliant teams over the weekend. This included Mercedes, Ferrari, Alpine, Alfa Romeo, Haas and Williams. In the letter, Brown expressed his faith in the FIA's policing of the cost cap process so far but said that how the governing body acted now was hugely important. He argued that there was no excuse for any team to have overspent, especially as everyone had been through a dress rehearsal of spending limits in 2020. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/red-bulls-f1-cost-cap-overspend-constitutes-cheating-brown-tells-fia/10385745/
What a load of crap. McLaren brought tons of updates in 21' after Ferrari stopped, and you can't tell me they didn't breach the cap trying to catch Ferrari last year. Everyone is throwing stones from a glass house. Hypocrisy all around.
Reality is that with or without the breach Red Bull built a tiger tank of a racecar. Good aero balance to downforce ratio, good reliability, good strategy and pit stops, and the most skilled natural talent since Alonso and Hamilton's younger days. Anyone seriously want to say Hamilton drove a better season last year, or that Leclerc was better this year? Just stop it. Admit RBR and Max were better,. Build better cars and help your drivers mature their skills if you want to catch them.
Fans like me have not enough information to make a judgement, I feel. But I find it very damaging to F1 that a team principal now calls for a rival to be "eliminated", and some results overturned. It's not a good sign when a championship are decided in court, IMO, or a driver deprived of his hard-won wins. It also unnecessarily divides followers, and affects the paying public, which supports F1 in fact.
You are wrong, They won’t winning races if they don’t fix all of this. Mercedes will improve greatly next year.
Ferrari and Mercedes are using the highly exaggerated RB cost cap "violations" as a cover for their own design and team management failures. As I read everything, only two teams have been examined by the FIA...AM and RB. All the other teams' compliance with the cost caps have been taken at face value...they have not been audited. And where did RB "cheat?" In catering? The anti RB knives are sure acting holier than thou.
Patrick, you might enjoy this article (most of it, anyway): https://the-race.com/formula-1/red-bull-doesnt-actually-need-to-breach-f1s-cost-cap-to-win/
If anything, Mercedes were the ones showing up at the last five races with a car that seemed to have extra horsepower as it was blowing past cars like they were standing still. So I don't know what upgrades they're speaking of when it comes to RB. And this year, the teams pretty much had to start from scratch designing the new spec cars, so I don't see what advantage any team carried over from last year. This years cars look nothing like last years.
They could, for example, buy a ton of carbon fiber and epoxy in 2020, and payed their workers 2022 salaries in 2021, so manufacturing updates in 2022 actually costs NOTHING on the 2022 books--only the autoclave heating energy would be required on the book of "this" year.
100%. At this point it's not even official by how much Red Bull is over, all we know is <5%. So Red Bull could literally be over by a dollar and here's Zak Brown screeching like this is the 2020 Tracing Point scandal, the illegal Tyre Test scandal, the 2008 Race Fix or the 2007 Spy Gate... All teams agreed that a breach of under 5% is minor, yet now they smell an opportunity they're on it like hounds...Toto saying that if Red Bull gets a slap on the wrist he's going to spend like crazy for 2023. Spend like crazy...does he mean go over the 5%? And with intent even. Hmmm.
Toto stated he would plan a requisite over spend and corresponding fine to reflect what penalty RedBull might be handed. Ferrari have stated the same. Implication is a fine is not a real deterrent to overspend.
If the penalty for spending <5% over the cap is just a financial penalty (at least up until what RBR has allegedly spend), I don't blame any team for doing so as well then. Anything over 5% is a different kettle of fish.
Well, obviously !! Since the budget cap has left the top teams with plenty of cash they are not allowed to spend, a fine would not really be a deterent. A penalty should not be retroactive either; revisiting last year results, demoting last year winner and giving the tittle to the runner-up would be extremely damaging to the FIA, and F1 in general. So a penalty should only be inflicted for the future, not the past. A penalty should handicap the offending team during the next season. One solution would be to penalise the "culprit" by reducing significantly their wind tunnel , simulator, and testing times for one year. Another solution would be to give a 5-place grid penalty to the cars of the offending team to ALL the GPs the following year. Or a combination of both.
I dont agree, and neither do pretty much all the worlds sports, Take tour de france for instance, Lance lost not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, but 7 titles, he was also banned from competeing again ( Even though he was retired.... ) But yet, No one complained, in fact, the sport was priased for it. Juventus, was relegated and docked points for 2 seasons to make sure it didnt get back to the top flight for 2 seasons, for match fixing. No one complained ( Apart from juve fans ) Italian football is still around and hasnt lost any credibility, in fact, it gained it. 2 times in which the out come has been for the good of the sport.. shall i keep going? Derby county, Relegated and dock points for breaching financial fair play rules. No one is complaining or did complain apart from Derby county fans and team. Southampton FC relegated, twice and docked points from EPL to 3rd tier started season on - 20 points... Not even its fans complained... Although they wanted the owner gone....... 4 and sitll not any damage being done to sports. 2019 ferrair saga with engine, WAS damaging to the sport, and no body but the FIA or Ferrari even know if any rules was broken. This HAS damaged f1's reputation. 2021 final race plus events during season. These HAVE also damaged f1. The only time any damage is done to a sport is when they FAIL to punish appropriately. Chelsea, banned from transfers for 2 seasons for tapping up players, Liverpool banned from signing youth players for 2 seasons for breaking rules. Integrity is vital in any sports. with out it. it isnt a sport but a show like WWE. Its damaging to the TEAM, not the sport.
How much did Max’s car rebuild cost at silverstone? Best thing the sport could do is cancel the 44 car. THE BEST
This is a forum, so there are different opinions, of course. RE le Tour de France, following Armstrong disqualification, there is now no winner for 7 years. They didn't even give the wins to those who came second in those years. That doesn't look good, IMO. Would you have liked Ferrari to have been disqualified and stripped of its points? In that issue, I only blame the FIA for non-transparency. I guess they wanted to avoid a scandal involving Ferrari.
I would have liked to know if Ferrari broke the rules first, or just found a loophole in the regs, i would not be fine they had to change the engine and sit in no mans land for 2 seasons, for finding a loop hole in the regs that was not a 100 % defined in the regs, if they was cheating, they was given a suitable punishment, probs a bit to light in my opinion. But i am more on the side of they found a loop hole ( No bias honest lol ) As for the tour de france, the fact they didnt rerank people was because fans, sponsors of the tour de france ( Not teams and individuals sponsors ) and those taking part didnt want it. Now every one knows why we have no winners during that time. better to have no winner than a cheat as a winner. Although they did dq a winner before and rerank people when one was caught hitching a lift during one.... but with lance they didnt find out the winner had cheated till some 5 - 10 + years later. I would be more than happy for 2021 to have no winner than a winner who cheated to earn such title ( Team of which he is apart of ). I dont think it should be handed to lewis either ( Not that he would want it ), should just do what the Tour De France did. But then they will have to do it for this season too, before its even finished, so the season is a write off before its even been completed. so a deduction of points is more suitable so the season can continue with the relevent party being punished. If Ferrari and CL end up as champions at the end of the season, then i wont complain. Not being biased honest lol
Ohh btw, after lances7th, Floyd Landis was found to have cheated on the last stage at the end of the competition, he was stripped of his win and others promoted. So obviously if caught with in a certain period of time, they will and have stripped cheater of a title a little time later.
