Just took delivery of Blackblack M5....had Brian at Zaino mobile detail do my Boxer and 330-did a unbelievable job...used a Porter-Cable random buffer and knows what he is doing...however, the ferraris had the usual swirl lines that needed to come out..the M5 is virgin paint, so don't know about using a buffer...he also recommends claying as new cars shipped from overseas have their share of foreign particles.

I know there has been a few threads on this topic...but I'm talking specifically about a newly unmolested finish...to buff or no? that is the question...incidently, all I've read is back and forth motion with the direction of airflow and no buffer...opinions please...and thanks in advance..

I admit that I don't know alot about buffers but I wouldn't let one near any new paint until there was a reason to buff something out. I'm sure those that really know will be along soon with the facts.

In the "old" days, new cars arrived with lots of railroad dust and bits slammed onto the surface as a result of shipping. Most new BMW's, Audi's, Merc's seem to be delivered to the dealers still wrapped in the delivery plastic -- which protects from much of that junk.

Having said that, I still agree on the "clay" recommendation. Why not treat your new baby to a proper welcoming-home treatment, and start off on the right foot? Do it!

    :)

Now, about the black.... I suffer with my black 348. The only thing that brings it to an absolute mirror-like finish is Meguires NXT. It works great, but absolutely blows in terms of longevity. Zaino probably is the ticket for durability, albeit a wee bit less shine.

very good, kind sir....any opinion on the 3m imperial glaze, with the P21S paint cleanser topped off with P21S Carnuba??

just feel like a nice coat of carnuba would be enough..no?

    Frank-
I'd say definately clay the M5 with a light duty clay bar. Then follow with your proposed plan. P21S is a great paste wax!

    Frank and Daniel-
Have either of you tried Pinnacle Souveran (either paste or liquid)? I think you'll like it for your black cars. It's the best I've found so far.

I order online from OCDGarage.com. Brett is the owner and can answer any question you could possibly have.
Whether or not you get the Pinnacle, keep us updated on how the M turns out.

I own a detail shop as well, so I might be able to help. First about the clay bar, use spray wax, and make sure to use a clean dry microfiber cloth. If you clay bar, then you must wax the car after words to prevent dulling in the paint. As for the Buffer...a good buffer can buff a Enzo or Murcie, no trouble. So I know for a fact that someone who is good with a buffer will have no issues buffing the M5. Your car will always look the best if 3 stages are done, regardless of how how new the car is..First clay, then a mild cutter, then the polish, which will act like a wax, and make the car look like a mirror opposed to water...I will talk with Lambo Bully and see if he wants to post here, he can tell you alot about keeping your paint from talking to ya,....

'preciate it...usually I do the 3m imperial glaze, P21S paint cleanser, and P21s carnuba..however this will be a daily, so thought I'd do the Zaino thing as I had Brian from Zaino Mobile Detail do the BBi and 330- came out light years ahead of my work...and successful use of a buffer....he also resurrected my 993 Twin with serious clay bar work to look almost new again...I know the random buffer when used properly with foam pad and correct heat can do wonders.....so I'll leave it to the professionals..here's a couple of pics after Brian finished the BBi
