Would like to know what Marcello Gandini thinks of the Veyron and the Chiron design.
The car IMHO looks way better in the two color format. For some reason the mono color makes the car come off simple. I'm sure its just pictures because there is no way this auto would look pedestrian in any color. Am I alone in this opinion?
Molsheim/Paris, September 30, 2016 It has been officially confirmed. The world’s most powerful, fastest, most luxurious and most exclusive production super sports car has the best design in the world. In its "Automotive Brand Contest", the German Design Council honours outstanding product and communication design in the automotive industry every year. At this year’s awards ceremony, the Bugatti Chiron1 was selected by the jury as the winner in the category “Exterior Premium Brand - Luxury.” This March, the Chiron celebrated its world debut in Geneva. The awards ceremony was held on the occasion of the Paris Motor Show. In their citation, the international jury of independent experts explain their decision as follows: The designers have succeeded in interpreting the Bugatti DNA in a modern way and adding new, distinctive features in line with the motto of Form follows Performance. These features became necessary as a result of the technical requirements posed by higher performance. In the category of “Exterior Premium Brand - Luxury”, which takes a closer look at the exteriors of all vehicle classes under the aspect of elegant design, the Chiron convinced the jury. The Bugatti design team is extremely pleased about this award, said Achim Anscheidt, Chief Designer of Bugatti, at the awards ceremony held in Paris on Thursday evening. The stylistic challenge posed for us designers by the tension between Bugatti’s traditional brand DNA and the need to adapt the exterior design of the car to the technical requirements of this ultimate 1500 PS super sports car was enormous. Honours like this and the extremely positive reaction of our customers and fans to the Chiron confirm that we adopted the right approach. The Automotive Brand Contest is held annually by the German Design Council. As the only impartial design competition for automobile brands, it has rapidly established itself as one of the world’s most important competitions in the industry. The German Design Council is one of the world’s leading competence centres for communications and know-how transfer in the design field. The association currently has more than 230 members. The German Design Council was established in 1953 at the initiative of the German Bundestag to strengthen the design competence of German industry.
Bugatti and innovation have never gone together. Examples: He rigidly stuck to beam axles, while many other marques had moved on to at least independent front suspension, and refused to supercharge engines until I believe his son convinced him. So sorry innovation is not a word to use when talking about "real" Bugattis. Pete
I really like the front of it, much better than the Veyron, which IMO looked like a fat, sad, audi TT. I'm not convinced on the rear. Ideally would be Chiron front and Veyron rear. I don't think either car is that good looking, and probably not very involving to drive. That said, if I had stupid money I'd probably have one. Few cars do the trans-continental euro bomb as well as a car like this. All black please. No chrome or anything. A car to drive on some great roads...the list of cars I'd have before it is very, very long.
It's truly a car for the person who has basically every other car they really want. I'd like one though.
Right. And I hate that curve design on the side. That said, there is for me only one and genuine Chiron on earth. The fantastic Giugiaro/Bugatti. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Chiron is the ugliest supercar today. That ugly thing is no Bugatti. It looks like a riced out Beetle. It doesn't even look modern. The EB110 looks way more modern. Way too bloated. They should have launched it as a VW Beetle and marketed it on the same price list as the Beetle. Now, that would have been cool.
Err...yes and no. That blue one is owned by a customer, but it's not a customer car. It was the pre-production car that was used for the debut of the car at Geneva. It was bought by a Saudi Prince who also bought the one and only Vision GT Bugatti. Apparently he put in an offer for the pair and it was better than someone else (guess multiple people wanted it) and he has both. http://www.autoblog.com/2016/08/04/saudi-prince-bugatti-chiron-vision-gran-turismo/
bought a pre-production car?? Give me a break. That could be the definition of too much money or too little sense I'm not sure which (both?)
I agree with a few exceptions. Without knowing anything more than what's in that article, it comes off like the guy wanted to be the first to have it. If that's the case, I think it's too much money... I have nothing against collectors wanting prototype cars or whatever for collections and usually it seems those cars are made available for purchase years later. Not before the production cars are even made like in this case. I've always loved the color combo on XP4 (4th McLaren F1 prototype that's in private hands). That's a pre production car I'd love to have. I don't think it went into private hands before the production models since they had a hard time selling those...I don't think there is anything wrong with owning it that way.
I agree with you. Something about car collecting prototypes and one offs felt more special to me in the 90s though. Today is just about having too much money and buying the next thing I matter what it is. In the 90s well heeled customers were more demanding I feel, like pulling out of the XJ220 or the fact that the F1 and F50 didn't sell.
I was surprised Bugatti parted ways with both cars and so soon at that. Do they really need the money (VAG emissions scandal perhaps)? I mean...surely they could have found more promotional events to display their cars. I'm sure they would've made great conversational pieces at private gatherings to sell their cars or other VAG products.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bX9WU_mzCfo First real video I have seen of the Chiron. No doubt this car will smash any road car ever made in terms of 60-260 mph acceleration. It will be interesting to read the reviews and see how it handles. I'll, likely, never get to drive one. Maybe I'll win the lottery, who knows....
I agree. I'd imagine it'll cost close to $3.5 million once all is said and done. That's such an insane amount for a car.
The Chiron looks like one of those OTT Peugeot concept cars that they build these days (not the older pre-2002 ones, which were very elegant). This thing is UGLY. I could also see it being a Chinese kit car.
I have just realized something: in the two-tone cars, the rear (usually black) looks like it is swallowing the front(usually Bugatti blue or dark red). WHY didn't they spot this after the first clay models? It's pretty funny. It's an evil fish trying to swallow a New Beetle.
You're the same guy writing a book in which you say the Jag E type is a "Vulgar" and "ugly" car. I'm not saying there won't be people who agree with you about the Chiron but ppl love to hate on Bugatti. I'm not sure I agree with your opinion of attractive.
I don't hate on Bugatti. The EB110 is beautiful and beautifully engineered - jewelry on wheels if you will. The problem with the Volkswagen group is that they love to Beetlefy everything they touch. Enough is enough. They bought Giugiaro, so why can't they design something risky and daring for once? This is beautiful, elegant and simple: https://www.google.lu/search?q=giugiaro+parcour&biw=1280&bih=685&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwjSgoTXz7DRAhVBWhoKHcrUAEkQ_AUIBigB They should have launched it.
