What a start to an anniversary year. At the first major international motor show of 2019, Bugatti presents the first One-Off in its modern history!
At the Geneva Motor Show, the French luxury brand is showing the hyper sports car “La Voiture Noire” which had been kept secret up to the beginning of the show.
This is a homage to the legendary Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic, This one-off grand tourisme has already been sold and is the world’s most expensive new car, at €11 million (€16,4 million with Tax).

“In 2019, we are celebrating a special anniversary. Bugatti was established 110 years ago. This model pay homage to our long tradition” says Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann.
With “La Voiture Noire“, the French luxury automobile brand has once again shown that it produces the world’s most precious and exclusive hyper sports cars.
The two-door car with its breathtakingly sculpted bodywork is especially elegant thanks to the use of deep black carbon fibre.
In the world of the automobile, “La Voiture Noire” is a name with a special resonance: Ettore Bugatti’s son Jean developed and drove one of only four Type 57 SC Atlantic coupés produced.
He called his Atlantic “La Voiture Noire“ – the black car. This vehicle disappeared without trace before the Second World War.
Nowadays, it is considered one of the great mysteries in the history of the automobile and it would be incredibly valuable.

“For Bugatti, ‘La Voiture Noire’ is more than just a reminiscence of the Atlantic. We are paying tribute to a long tradition, to France and to the creative work of Jean Bugatti,” says Stephan Winkelmann.
“At the same time, we are transferring extraordinary technology, aesthetics and extreme luxury to a new age.” The special hyper sports car was hand-crafted for a Bugatti enthusiast.
“La Voiture Noire” is a collection of superlatives,” says Stephan Winkelmann.
Apart from design, quality and materials, this also applies to the iconic power plant.
The 16-cylinder engine with a displacement of 8 litres produces 1,103 kW/1,500 PS.
A car collector purchased this unique vehicle for €11 million net, making it the world’s most expensive new car and continuing the long tradition of Bugatti.
Since the company was first established in 1909, the French luxury brand has produced the world’s best and most powerful sports and luxury cars, true to Ettore Bugatti’s: motto: “if it is comparable, it is no longer Bugatti.”

The Bugatti La Voiture Noire Reminiscence of an icon.

A pioneering spirit, passion for perfection and the desire to continually redefine its limits have been the key characteristics of BUGATTI since it was founded more than 110 years ago.
None of the brand’s masterpieces reflect these values more impressively than the Type 57 SC Atlantic. Created by Ettore Bugatti’s eldest son Jean, the only four Atlantics ever created stand for pure elegance and sophistication.
With its homage to the fourth, all-black Atlantic, missing since the Second World War, BUGATTI is bringing the speed, technology, luxury and aesthetics of an icon into a new era.
But the customized creation of “La Voiture Noire” is far more than a modern interpretation of the ghost of the gran turismo. “La Voiture Noire” is a tribute to BUGATTI’s own history, a manifesto of the BUGATTI aesthetic and a piece of automotive haute couture.

La Voiture Noir is Much more than a simple reinterpretation.

“The Atlantic is one of the icons of BUGATTI’s rich history. At the time, this coupé was unique in its elegance, quality and performance, and it remains so today.
A luxurious hyper sports car. For us, both an inspiration and obligation at the same time,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of BUGATTI.
In terms of exclusivity, performance and luxury, the new “La Voiture Noire” is every inch the equal of Jean Bugatti’s masterpiece. It is the perfect manifestation of BUGATTI’s cornerstones: “dynamic, luxury and elegance”.
“La Voiture Noire” is an opus of elegance and finesse. Purism and elegance are reflected in every surface and continued into each minute detail. The windscreen seems to flow seamlessly into the windows like the visor on a helmet.
The newly designed bumpers are smoothly integrated into the body. Clear lines guide the eye subtly over the surface, which seems to blend into a single piece.
With its extended front end and the distinctive BUGATTI signature line, “La Voiture Noire” creates an elongated impression. Its elegant waistline accentuates the coupé’s contours.
At the rear, six tailpipes bear witness to the incredible power of “La Voiture Noire”.
Subtly incorporated into the overall appearance, they hint at the strength of the car’s heart, the iconic 16-cylinder engine.

The myth, The Motoring Equivalent of the Amber Room.

The three remaining Atlantics are among the world’s most expensive and desirable classic cars. The whereabouts of Jean Bugatti’s personal “La Voiture Noire” are still unknown – the automotive equivalent of the Amber Room.
It is thought the car disappeared during the Second World War, sent to a safe region before the German troops invaded Alsace. Its disappearance more than 80 years ago remains the biggest mystery in BUGATTI’s fabled history.
Today, “La Voiture Noire” lives on as a myth.
With the new “La Voiture Noire”, BUGATTI has created a car that takes up that legend and carries it forward to the present day.
In its exclusiveness, style, quality and performance, “La Voiture Noire” is an unprecedented creation that continues Jean Bugatti’s legacy in striving for unprecedented elegance and technical perfection.

La Voiture Noire was unveiled for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show this year and commenced the anniversary of Bugatti's 110th anniversary.
This unique model that has already been sold, pays homage to the legendary Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic in black which mysteriously disappeared from the workshops in Molsheim during the Second World War.
La Voiture Noire takes the key elements of this historic Gran Turismo and keeps all the elements that make Bugatti hyper sports cars exceptional.
Stephan Winkelmann points out that "Bugatti's unique model, the La Voiture Noire, with its exceptional lines and special character, has its place in the competition".
Thus, this weekend, La Marque officially presented its exclusive model in a splendid environment and defended its honour in the face of sumptuous cars.
Although the good weather was swept away by a storm on Saturday, the sun came back to shine on the Villa d’Este on Sunday, day during which, by public vote, La Voiture Noire won the Design Award of the Concorso.
Mister Winkelmann received the trophy under thunderous applause. Given the very special and unique character of this event, the final result mattered little to the eyes of Bugatti enthusiasts.
La Voiture Noire is a unique model, these public appearances are very rare and it will be the opportunity for lovers to catch a glimpse of an exceptional model.

Bugatti "La Voiture Noire", the unique piece of the 110th anniversary, will unveil its production version in the next few days, before leaving to its owner and probably disappearing from the radar.

The Bugatti La Voiture Noire From a Vision to a Reality.

A breathtaking sculpture, perfect in form and entirely in black – the La Voiture Noire. This one-off was created exclusively for a Bugatti enthusiast within the space of two years. The ultimate grand tourer will now soon be delivered following extensive development work and testing.

“With the completed La Voiture Noire, we are demonstrating once again that we develop the world’s most sophisticated hyper sports cars,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. “With its use of visible carbon fiber in jet black, the coupe’s breathtaking sculpture looks especially elegant. It’s a veritable grand tourer that went from being a vision to a reality – a unique project which stands for Bugatti’s full creativity and artistry.” A pioneering spirit, a passion for perfection, and a desire to push one’s own boundaries again and again have characterized Bugatti since the company was founded more than 110 years ago.

The name “La Voiture Noire” has a particular ring in the automotive world – Ettore Bugatti’s son Jean developed and drove one of just four Type 57 SC Atlantic produced, a vehicle which was the most perfect and the fastest automobile of its time. Jean named his model “La Voiture Noire” – the black car. The vehicle disappeared without a trace shortly before the Second World War. It is now considered the automotive equivalent of the Amber Room, one of the greatest mysteries of the automotive world, and as a vehicle of indescribable value.

The idea for this homage came to Design Director Achim Anscheidt more than 20 years ago, but years passed until it became possible to realize this unusual project. “We were rather in awe of the idea of developing the La Voiture Noire. No other vehicle in the long history of Bugatti has acquired the same legendary status as the Type 57 SC Atlantic and has become so synonymous with the brand. We had a great deal of respect for this historical responsibility as well as for the customer,” explains Achim Anscheidt.

The fascinating, sculptural, and commanding appearance of this black automobile which disappeared is forever unique. Jean Bugatti had a real flair for shapes and developed saloons and coupes of dramatic beauty. With the Atlantic, Jean Bugatti created a masterpiece. For the reinterpretation, the designers had to cast their minds back and seek to understand the automobile, the bygone times, the technology, the materials, and the creators – and then update this work to the 21st century.

    Minimalist coupe of impressive beauty

The La Voiture Noire is a minimalist coupe much like the Atlantic back then thanks to reducing the essentials, reduced lines, and the absence of a large and dominant rear wing. The designers reinterpreted the spirit of the historical vehicle and developed a specific shape stylistically and technically speaking. This includes the dorsal seam down the centerline, the extended front section, the clear lines, and the romanticism of the rear. With great attention to detail, they created a bodywork with a unique surface finish – visible carbon fiber with a clearcoat known as “Black Carbon Glossy”. This generates virtually no reflections, but plenty of tension and drama. The bumpers are integrated gently into the bodywork while the windscreen appears to merge with the side windows like a helmet visor. The lack of disruptive lines means the surface appears to have been cast in one piece – nothing interrupts the visual flow. This transforms the vehicle’s attitude from a hyper sports car to a grand tourer. A unique sense of drama is generated by reducing the essentials and the teasing out of this essence of beauty and elegance from the surfaces.

In addition, it boasts some extraordinary details. There are more than 25 individually milled lights elements per side in the headlamps – an immense amount of work, even for a one-off. Each and every cell of the 3D-printed front grille has been honed and examined to ensure they all look perfect together. The rear is dominated by an elegant rear light which for the first time features a single-piece surround with no joints. Six individual tailpipes serve as a nod to the vehicle’s well-known template. A newly developed parametric design at the front and rear means the body parts appear to be sealed, but they are actually air-permeable. This gives the La Voiture Noire its incomparable coupe shape.

Bugatti has fitted the interior entirely with grain leather in Havana Brown, basing its choice on the historical model. This natural material contrasts with specially polished and turned aluminum inlays in various locations on the center console, the center spine, and the doors. The driving modes can be changed by means of a sophisticated rosewood switch. “The La Voiture Noire is the ultimate dream car for long distances such as a drive from Molsheim to Milan. The combination of perfect beauty and powerful drive culminates in this one-off as a declaration of love for the automobile,” explains Achim Anscheidt.

In spite of its uniqueness, Bugatti developed the coupe just as elaborately as its other hyper sports cars in just two years. Every new part had to pass the strict Bugatti testing and quality procedures, was measured, and was put through its paces time and again before finding its place in the vehicle. Extensive simulations were followed by testing in the wind tunnel and on test benches, and then on test tracks and proving grounds covering the entire range of speeds. Modifications to the bodywork, cooling, thermodynamics, wheels, and wheelbase result in new balance which requires perfect coordination. “Although the La Voiture Noire is a one-off, we spent two years using a test vehicle to develop and test it in all areas like handling and driving safety so that it can be approved,” says Pierre Rommelfanger, who is the Head of Coachbuilding Projects at Bugatti.

The extended wheelbase and the newly developed bodywork result in new aerodynamics and new handling which is worthy of a grand tourer – powerful, fast, and exceptionally comfortable. “With the La Voiture Noire, we are paying our respects to our long tradition, to France, and to Jean Bugatti’s creative work,” says Stephan Winkelmann. “At the same time, we are bringing exceptional technology, aesthetics, and extreme luxury into a new age. The La Voiture Noire is at the cutting edge of automotive engineering. It is a sculptural beauty that boasts unique technology.” The one-of-a-kind has already been sold to a Bugatti enthusiast for eleven million euros (before tax).

well, i love this car, but it is disapointing,
so many teasers just to release a small bunch of pictures, and not a single one of the interior, (even if it is probably the same as in the chiron...)
    no further technical data,
it was a very light presentation...

however, i think the final rims are much more beautiful!
