An announcement has been made by Goodings auctioneers that they will be selling the Williamson collection of Bugattis which is amazing - several Type 57s's including an Atlantic, several grand prix bug's and more........................ Time will tell what comes to auction, and what $$$$$$$$$$$$$ they bring. Tim
Werner is a friend of mine at MillerMotorcars and it seems like he gets to drive that Veyron as much as he wants. Two weeks ago when I was in Greenwich, I was drooling ( with class ) in the Ferrari showroom which is adjacent to a small parking lot used for overflow. So walking over to the parking lot there sat the same white and baby blue Veyron ( Polar M and White ) sitting in a row with various other exotics. By the way, just a size comparison, I never thought the Veyron was a very large car, however its as big as a Modena. So I walked around the car for a while getting quite a private look when - as an enthusiast, I had to check - found out it was unlocked. Get that. A $1.3M car sitting unlocked in a parking lot. So, Ive had multiple opportunities to get up close and personal with the Veyron and decided it wasn't the time to sit in it and goof around. Anyway, it was pretty interesting. _J
The sale will take place in August during the Monterey/ Pebble Beach weekend Amongst the collection are (with my estimates) Bugatti Type 57S Atalante - $3 mil. + Bugatti Type 57S Atalante (yes he owns two) - $3 mil. + Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic - $10 - 20 mil. ?? Bugatti Type 35B - $2 mil. + Bugatti Type 35/ Miller - $2 mil. + Bugatti Type 51 - $2 mil. + Bugatti Type 35 - $2 mil. + Bugatti Type 57C Atalante - $1 mil. + Bugatti Type 55 Roadster - $2 mil. + Bugatti Type 46 - $500,000 + Bugatti Type 19 - $200,000 + So will be interesting to see if they go to auction and what $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, I would suspect some will be sold before as a private treaty. Yes, it's this Bugatti Atlantic. This Atlantic was sold at auction June 12, 1971 by Sotheby's at Parke Bernet Galleries in Los Angeles. It was acquired by Dr Peter Williamson for $59,000, a large sum in 1971 and the largest amount ever obtained for a automobile at auction at the time. Rodney Clarke, who had sold the car to Bob Oliver in the first place, in 1946, was the underbidder. The second underbidder was Charles Renaud.
