Everybody knows that the Bugatti Veyron is one of the most incredibly engineered cars of all time. And also the fastest. And most expensive. But for all the hype, has any Veyron ever entered any officially sanctioned competition race, and have they ever won anything?

Same was with the McLaren f1, it was never intended to be a race car, only the ultimate car for the road. (Whether it made its goal is up to individual ideas of a "perfect road car"). SO to answer the question, it has never been entered or won any type of race.

That being said, the McLaren owners created such a demand to race the car that the company produced racing F1s to meet the demand. Only time will tell if the same will happen with the Veyron.

I have a hard time seeing the Veyron being raced at all. On the other hand there is always the R8.

I assume you saw the Road and Track; 0 to 200 article ?

To me this is not true racing.
Add braking, cornering, and controlability over the course of half an hour and we get to racing.

What about the Enzo, the F50? IMO, if you make it into a racer, you lose what makes it a Veyron. Just look at the Porch 959 Comfort vs. Sport models. The Sport models weigh less, are faster, but also lack the technology that made the 959 a 959.

Nope, the customers wanted a racing F1 and told McLaren 'with you support, or not'.

Race isn't everything... Race cars are far from road cars anyways...

Maybee so with the kind of cars you and I have owned, but I'd warrant theres quite a lot of skill involved in launching a car with upwards of 1,000HP. :)

Actually it takes none at all.

Place left foot on the brake. Rev engine to 5K. Place both hands on the wheel. Remove left foot and plant right foot to the floor. The G forces will effect your vision for a beat but if you relax you'll be fine. 10.5 seconds later you'll be crossing the 1/4 mile marker. The electronics will take car of everything including shifting for you.

    To quote Tif (?)
To enjoy a Veryon you need to be rich but not a very good driver.

Thats a pretty big misquote there! He said you don't have to be a very good driver, whereas say, put a rich man in a top fuel dragster, and see if they can fully put its power down!
