KLINE VALVETRONIC EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR FERRARI F355

The Ferrari 355, equipped with a 3.5L Flat plane crank V8 engine generating 375 horsepower, showcases superior handling compared to its predecessor, the 348. It embodies the essence of a true driver’s car. As is characteristic of all naturally aspirated Ferraris, this V8 engine has the ability to emit a screaming exhaust note akin to that of a race car.

THE SOUND

By substituting the stock catalysts with HJS HDPE motorsport catalysts or opting for racing pipes, the sound of the exhaust is dramatically enhanced. When the valve is open, the silencer is completely bypassed, and the exhaust discharge is merged into a Y pipe, harmoniously blending the exhaust gases 180 degrees out of phase, resulting in a heightened, higher-pitched sound. Conversely, when the valve is closed, the gases are directed through a series of chambers and acoustic fill sections, creating a smooth and unobtrusive sound during cruising.

To complement the exhaust system perfectly and amplify that distinctive F1 scream, equal length headers are an ideal addition.

STAINLESS STEEL

Within the realm of exhaust manufacturing, the prevailing industry standard revolves around utilizing 304-grade stainless steel. This particular grade offers a comprehensive blend of moderate strength, thermochemical stability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of production. It allows for the construction of exhaust systems that strike a sensible balance between affordability and functionality, ensuring long-lasting durability. However, it is important to acknowledge that stainless steel is relatively heavier when compared to alternative materials. Despite sharing a similar density with regular steel, it possesses slightly lower tensile strength. This limitation curtails the potential for creating high-performance exhaust components using stainless steel. Additionally, in terms of sound characteristics, the thicker sidewalls required by stainless steel may result in a somewhat subdued and less vibrant exhaust note compared to the aforementioned materials.

INCONEL

When it comes to ensuring durability and heat resistance in the aerospace industry, the utilization of Inconel 625 stands out as the ultimate choice. This extraordinary material finds extensive applications in the manufacturing of critical components, particularly exhaust turbine blades for high-performance jet engines. Inconel is notably favored for Formula One exhaust systems and has been selected by manufacturers engaged in prestigious hypercar projects such as the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. These applications greatly benefit from Inconel’s exceptional ability to withstand extreme temperatures exceeding 1000°C while prioritizing a lightweight design.

Inconel exhibits remarkable properties, including remarkably high tensile strength and exceptional thermochemical stability. Its tensile strength is comparable to that of titanium, resulting in an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio. Consequently, Inconel allows for the use of thin sidewall materials while preserving structural integrity, facilitating the production of lightweight components that demonstrate remarkable resistance to fatigue over extended periods. However, working with Inconel poses certain challenges due to its difficult machinability and specific welding requirements, demanding specialized skills and time-consuming techniques. Additionally, the unique properties and specialized manufacturing processes associated with Inconel contribute to its higher cost as a raw material.

HEAT SHIELD

Customers who prioritize effective heat management can benefit from the company’s offering of a meticulously designed heat protection solution crafted from embossed stainless steel sheet. Each heat shield is carefully created and welded by skilled artisans to ensure optimal performance. Integrating these heat shields onto the manifolds allows for reduced heat soak and improved scavenge, resulting in enhanced overall performance and a cooler engine temperature.
