you are right. I just watched the cbs news and there was no mention nor update. seems quite news worthy to me. odd.
to the community, I just contacted the folks at the la jolla concours d'elegance and indicated that a long time participant and class winner was just involved in a harrowing accident. I indicated that the car jon chose to debut at the event in the past years was destroyed but much more sad was the serious injury to jon and the tragic loss of passenger and dear friend, Amanda...so young and mother of two I hope they will take some time to mention the tragedy to the event attendees and participants. I hope a donations process can be underway ahead of the event so it may be used to garner more contributors to help along with jon's medical expenses and a fund for Amanda's children. this is all so sad and close to home the la jolla concours is 4/8-10.
Tragically but truthfully, in this Internet- and instant-media-dissemination age (and this coming from someone who went to a top journalism school), the news outlets care only about breaking scoops are graphic and/or headline-grabbing events. They could care less about following up (until there are criminal proceedings where they can splash the accident footage again). To be honest, after seeing that Youtube clip I was in no way prepared to witness, I'm just as glad they leave it alone.
So many thoughts .. But no real words come, just a deep sadness. Sincere heartfelt condolences to Amanda's family.
I think her name should be made public record ASAP. Also, it should be well publicized that pot smoking drivers are not "harmless" and are just as dangerous as drunk drivers.
The DA had special investigators at the accident scene and is laying the groundwork for murder charges. The Toyota Corolla involved in the accident is registered to a Ms Mi Kim. It has not been fully verified if she was behind the wheel or if someone else was driving so hopefully we can all let the judicial process work as it is supposed to. But, that being said, Bonnie Dumanis is the District Attorney for San Diego. I would think that an email in support of full charges against this (alleged) multiple repeat, DUI offender would benefit moving Jon's accident to the top of their attention. Their email is: [email protected]. You might wish to indicate this concerning the DUI accident spelled out in the links at the beginning of the thread. We are all obviously upset over this needless tragedy. Let's not have it happen again. If anyone wishes to scan for jail arraignment updates - that may help the group with news as to charges being brought. I do not know how to stay on top of that. Robb
I think 3 DUIs before indicates this person is a general F-Up looking for their next accident, pot is the least of it. It does raise the question as to how someone with 3 DUIs was driving in the first place.
At this point I really do not care about the Toyota driver. All I can think about is two children without their mother and Jon struggling to recover. This is where our energy and focus should be now. We need to help those suffering. That is what friends do.
Here's how: likely without a license or insurance. A similar character rear-ended my mother last year. You can take their license and refuse to insure them, but you can't keep them from driving if they're determined.
+1 RIP Amanda. A fund raised will certainly also help Jon when he returns and considers the benefits for Amanda's kids.
Of course. That goes without saying. I also want the Toyota driver in jail so she isn't a continued threat to those in the San Diego area or anywhere else. And, for her name to be released with circumstances so that anyone else doing similar things will think twice.
The local news media is happy to report on a fund raising cause for Jon, Amanda, and the kids. So when that moves forward, all they will need is a local friend, or family member to go on camera. Without that link (or face) , they will be waiting on the DA. I have the news reporters' contact info. We are still waiting on family for an update on how best to link them to the effort. Robb
She may be a minor but after this the name may well be released. Frankly justice will take its course but my only thoughts now are of her, the sons future journey and Amanda s parents. Of course Jon's situation is of great concern: there is sadness all around this. I can't help but remind that substantiated facts are not officially published and there is a reason for that in one should be cautious on postings. Well wishes seem fine but it may well be a civil and criminal ordeal and this is the Internet. Just saying
What an awful tragedy. I never met Jon but he was one of those members that you always had pleasure reading. Always courteous and always of value. I hope he recovers fully. My condolences to Amanda's family, her sons and her friends.
By now a Police report of the accident has been filed and is public record. Anybody can go to the appropriate police station (I'm guessing, Scripps Ranch), pay a nominal fee, and obtain a copy. That would give you all the pertinent info about the driver of the Toyota who caused the crash.
Hi,not looking to make any form of levity on this awful situation/outcome,I have a question of our American friends regarding 'insurance' When Aussie's see an American programme involving police and pulling driver's over, they question from the policeperson is always 'Can you show me your license, registration and insurance' Can someone please explain what type of insurance it is,I understand you cannot purchase a car without this type of insurance. In Aussie,we have Compulsory Third Party insurance, which is tacked onto our registration of the car,and is to deal with injury sustained in an accident. Thanx. R.I.P. Amanda...so very sad..
