The small hose that connects the 2 aluminum pipes going to the heads burst. Stressful, but happy to realize the car wasn't on fire and it was coolant... Luckily it was 2 minutes away from home as well.

    That one:

I just became a certified Ferrari mechanic But I still need to find the pipe. Fortunately the area is quite accessible.

If anyone recommends a torque for the coolant line bolt to the head I am a taker. It seemed to be lightly to medium torqued.

I seem to recall that some hoses on the later cars were changed from rubber to silicone. It'll be interesting to see what type you are sent.

Lots of very high quality coolant hose available over the counter. No reason to pay Ferrari price for what is very often substandard quality.

I indeed ordered a 1m piece of silicone tubing with 14mm ID (tolerance 0.5mm - so equivalent to the 14.5 of the stock hose). That should do, at least for now as I need the car on the road ASAP and the OEM tube is on back order at Eurospares. In any case, all the hoses will need to be inspected / replaced.

I tried to find some aftermarket bends for my 430 radiator hoses, lots of 45 degree but no one had 30s

From a local shop. Straight, 1m, 14mm ID, 4 ply silicone. Supposed to burst at 250 psi, normal working pressure up to 130 and temperature up to 260°C (500°F). That should do for the the cooling system ;)

    The last questions being :

    1. Thread sealant or not? I am thinking about Permatex high temperature (59235), I happen to have a tube around and it seems to make a lot of sense.
    2. Torque of that bolt... I guess 15 N.m will do.

    3. Liters of coolant missing out of the 17.5l, I guess most of it and it's a non issue, I'll get enough.

It does not seal on the threads. Use new copper washers and do it correctly. Do not fix that which is not broken.

What happened? That banjo bolt looks like is off a 50 year old car from a junk yard.

I guess the zoom doesn't emphasize its beauty LOL It does look better with the naked eye and daylight. Out of a 34000km Ferrari that lives in a hot and humid climate, nothing out of the ordinary, although I am not 100% sure about the overall quality of the parts that make the sum. A good chunk of the threads on FC address this ;)

Any suggestion for the torque since you seemed to be more well versed than I am? Thank you!

Same as any other copper washer sealed part. Torque until yield of sealing washer.

Been working on Ferrari professionally for over 40 years. That banjo bolt looks like its from a derelict in a junk yard.

    How often is coolant changed?

According to the invoices obtained, at least in the last 3 or 4 years often enough. Whatever happened before that... Generally speaking, new cars in our market will see some sort of maintenance in the early years. After 5 or 6 years, in some cases, you end up with a lot of deferred maintenance, replace when broken sort of mentality, nothing preventive. It's a cultural component that also converges with the fact that most of the "luxuries" are considered disposable. Then eventually it lands into the hands of an enthusiast, like the previous owner, and if the mileage is low enough and issues addressed, you usually can get things back on track. Adding to the problem is that these kind of cars are usually not driven as they should, and seat for extended period of times with owners traveling or simply partly living overseas. And you know much better than me what happens to Italian cars seating... You can't even fathom the numbers of cars I have seen that sat idle for the last 2 or 3 years, that unfortunately was because of the peculiar Covid policies we had over here.

My personal approach is pragmatism because you can't change the market you're in. Get a car, flush everything and service all the obvious, then drive the hell out of it daily, and when you're through the 3 to 6 initial months where everything that should break has done so, get into the details. That's what I have done with all the second hand local cars I have had so far and it worked well.

Precisely the reason I've replaced all my coolant hoses with reinforced silicone racing hoses. Ferrari hoses are garbage...and 20 years old.
