6e Grand Prix de Monaco Historique - Monaco Historics

10 May - practice start at 7:30 am and classes go to 6:50 pm - everything from formula junior, pre 1947, pre 1961 front engined, pre 1961 rear engined, F1 1975-1978, pre 1953 sports cars, pre 1975 F1 and more

11 May - races start at 10:00 am - 10 laps or 30 minutes except for the F1's which are 15 laps or 45 minutes.

Each day there's a Ferrari F1 Historic Parade. The 21 entries feature an F500 from 1952 (Ascari), 312 B's (Ickx/Redman, Ickx, Lauda), numerous other models driven during their racing career by Prost, Berger, Mansell, Alesi, Rubens and of course, Michael. Four guys from the US with their Cliente cars (all Schumi cars). One of the cars, an F2002B Schumi is owned by Juan Fangio Jr. - that's cool.

We're hoping for a nice sunny weekend in Monaco even though weather.com says chance of rain; weather folks saying sunny weekend in store for Spa (a race at Spa without rain is quite unusual) and didn't check Turkey. Try to catch up with you guys if possible on here over the weekend if the iPhone cooperates this time. Let's hope for an incident free weekend for everyone, don't need a repeat of last weekend.

In the Historique, I'll be pulling for Ian Landy in the White Riley in Group A, along with Ed Davies in an Alfa Tipo B. Ian may win the whole ball of wax, and he told me last year in Pittsburgh at the GP that I was the one who was guilty of "hooking him on this stuff..." :)

Pulling for Duncan Dayton (Lotus 16) in Group B, another favorite for the top step. Tom Mittler (OSCA MT4), Stephen Dudley (166/195S) and Tom Price (DB-2) in Group C, Tupper Robinson and Bob Woodward (Formula Juniors) in Group D.

There's going to be a ding-dong battle between Roy Walzer (BT11 Brabham), James King (BT7) and Duncan Dayton (BT11) in Group E (1.5 liter F1 cars).

In the 3-liter F1 cars, Jeff Lewis (Tyrell 007), Bob Baker (BT33), Duncan Dayton and Dan Marvin driving Phil Reilly's Brabham will all be quick. My money is on Duncan or Dan.

In the post '75 3-liter cars, Mike Fitzgerald and Chris McAllister will be right up front.

This is something Americans can really take to the Brits, the Germans and Italians! :D Can't wait.

Peter - thanks for the heads up on this, it gives us someone to cheer for - sounds like Duncan Dayton is going to be quite busy. Any other suggestions/pointers, etc??

Awesome summary of events and thank you!

Im just a short drive from Monaco but need to head to the UK for embassy work over the weekend or would hit Monaco. Historic events offer the richest experience in racing I think. Thank you again for the summary. Enjoy yourself and I hope you have great fun!!

Thanks - with all the weekends in a year to have two on the same weekend makes it tough. Part of me definitely wants to see the historics and the other voice says "Spa". Have a great weekend . . don't work too hard. I really envy you there!!

Hi Peter, sorry for the delay. It seems that I had the choice of charging a camera or iPhone with only one outlet at the hotel so I opted for the camera and thus didn't have internet capability. Duncan did VERY well - won Serie B - Voitures de Grand Prix a moteur avant construites avant 1961 in his 1959 Lotus 16 and also won Serie F - Voitures de Gand Prix de Formule 1 - 3 litres construites avant 1975 in his 1970 Brabhan BT33.

I've got a ton of photos and this was by far the BEST racing we've seen in a very long time. One of a kind machines didn't stop them from racing to win. Our seats were exceptional - got a view of them going up the hill from Ste Devote, coming across the harbor and going past us at the chicane then past the swimming pool.

Will down load photos and do a thread on the historics. We decided to do this again in two years!!! well worth the time. Also Sir Stirling Moss was driving a 1950 Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica Mk1 in serie C - Voitures de sport construites avant 1953 - it was absolutely awesome to see him drive in the event (especially in his helmet and long sleeve blue shirt) - he has his 79th birthday very soon.

    More later,
    Carol
