Possibly, yet there are at least 10 items that are wrong with this car, and cannot really justify such prices.

A 'Compomotive' catalog included in the sale, as there is a Dino (possibly this one?) on the cover, does not add one iota to this extravagant price. Just my .02...

    Still a nice car...

    Regards, Alberto

I have to say, $365,000 is not out of line. With some Dino's changing hands in excess of $400,000 recently...

I do own a 246GT but I am not an expert on these cars...

It's a very attractive Dino, and particularly appealing to me, because one of my Dino coupes is Blu Sera. Obviously, the seats and door panel inserts are not origiinal. It's missing the foam over the radiator, which would be attached to the hood's underside, as well as the brake reservoir cover and spare tire tie-down screw. The insulating panel on the engine compartment bulkhead is also missing. However, the most noticeable flaw (and the most inexcusable one, at this price point) is the severe kink in the right side of the trunk lid's trailing edge. It is so bad the license plate light bezel sits at an angle, with the right side going uphill. We all love a great Dino, but some of the asking prices we're now seeing bear no relation to reality, in my opinion. Fred

    Agreed.

Did any Dino come with Goodyear tires on it? Michelin X's, no?

The trunk lid is quite kinked...

The radio does not seem to be from the correct period. The screw drivers are not shown. They may be out of the picture. The wheel chock also is not shown. Is that a leather key fob? Did 74 Dinos come with a leather key fob? For $365,000 I would want to see everything that comes with the car.
"Portions of the paint are original"...... which portions, and how much is a portion and why portions?
Yes, some Dinos came with Michelin XWX205/70VR14 tires. I still have my original spare.

What I did find interesting is the chalk numbers on the firewall. I always wondered what those numbers on my firewall were for, now I know. I wonder if this car still has the original styrofoam under the luggage compartment carpets. After making the point about the rarity of the matching firewall and body numbers, it would be interesting to know if the car has the original styrofoam .

Seems like nice Dino but sure roof is incorrect color also some details like leather.

You have to realize that open versions GTS was mostly produced to US so EU version is more rare.

With all due respect to the various comments on this thread and other threads that address market prices, I encourage you to review your Economics 101 book and turn to the chapter on supply and demand.

Cheap & available money (low interest rates), high water mark for market (just a few hundred points short of record high in the US), tremendous interest in "hard" assets (have you checked the price of a bottle of good wine lately - not to mention pieces from favorite artists), disdain for the shock of depreciation from new models, etc. all contribute to significant demand for a product that is no longer made (VERY limited supply).

High Demand + Low Supply = Increased Price

The situation is further compounded by the fact that supply will actually shrink (cars go out of service) and you can't make more! Comments that suggest that current prices are inappropriate or not realistic don't really make sense. Once you consider the factors that impact supply and demand, it adds up to price increases. Price changes will occur when factors that impact supply and demand change.

Might prices go down? Of course. Is that a bubble bursting? Some will say so. I suggest that factors impacting demand (not supply, as it is pretty static) changed causing the prices to change. Pretty simple stuff and not worthy of high emotion.

For now, those who own Dinos, enjoy the fact that your asset has likely appreciated. For those that don't, recognize that the joy of onwership will come at a higher price now than would have been the case a short time ago. Most importantly, I encourage you to quit worrying whether every knob is correct, etc. Get out, drive your car and enjoy it. You own a wonderful car that begs to be driven.

Have fun and stop worrying about prices!!

If you haven't updated your insurance recently, it's probably time. While it may cost a few dollars to increase your limits, it's probably worth it. Heaven forbid something happens to your car and it needs to be replaced; current prices will challenge you to replace the car for what you insured it for years ago. Many collector car coverages are "stated value" - getting caught short could be very costly when you try to replace your vehicle. Then I encourage you to drive and enjoy. Spring is just around the corner.

Your points are very punctual, yet, a car is worth what it should be worth and this car is way out of line with all the faults it represents quite clearly.

Otherwise, you are implying that if you 'worry about prices', then it is ok to pay whatever is asked for just because of Econ.101.

What you fail to note, is that demand and supply has many variables.

If a Dino is potentially rusty, has many faults, and is of an unknown quality overall, then just because 'supply' is low, it does not mean your theoretical 'demand' aspect of the market, will justify silly $.

I do not agree, but then who cares :)

    Regards, Alberto

I haven't looked THIS Dino over yet.

Being in Houston, I typically stop by DriverSource when I can.

I see a couple of things with this Dino that aren't right (black piping) and also a couple of things that are pretty surprising (the chalk marks on the rear fire wall, the micro-switch on the engine).

This dealer has sold quite a few Dino's. I can't prove this, becuase of private sales, but I would be willing to say that they have pubically sold more Dino's in 2011 and 2012 than any other dealer I know of in the USA. I stop by there pretty regularly. They are dealers, but I have found most of their cars as being fairly described or under described. I have no interest in what they sell or not, other than being amazed at what they transact.

There are several CURRENT F-Chatters with cars from them.

I would be interested in THEIR comments, and none have posted so far.

As a dealer, this isn't a fly-by-night dealer. They are LEGIT and if you saw the things I have seen, you would question your questioning them.

They are car guys trying to bring real cars to the public. They aren't shady guys. I have no interest in what they do or do not do, but when you see some one grinding to make a vintage car market turn in Houston, where there is a very low vintage car demand, you have to admire their efforts.

For all the stones being thrown, I would ask people to look at why....

I have seen these guys do "The Right Thing" on vintage cars (not Ferrari) if it turned out to be something unknown. I have also seen them unearth stuff that is pretty amazing. They try and stay low-key, but some of the cars that they have been a part of, is truely amazing...

I don't think that anyone here is impugning the dealer or its motivation. They obviously want to sell this Dino for the highest price it will bring. Posters are merely pointing out that this car, which is being offered at a very steep price, doesn't appear, even at first glance, to have the degree of "correctness" that someone willing to pay top dollar will demand. It's a lovely car, but it's not made of gold. Fred

If I were the dealer I would thank everyone on F-chat for examining my pictures and giving me a free evaluation of what I could do to improve the car so I would have a better chance of getting $365,000 for it. I also felt no one was impugning the dealer.

Or to paraphrase Socrates: "The unexamined Dino may not be worth buying".

And this is just one of the things that is done on F-chat (206/246) .... examine Dinos.

Since I started this thread, I should be hitting them up for a commission if the car sells then ?

It could be time for your commission? I don't see the Dino on their website.

And thanks for the compliment. Maybe this one was worth buying, or the seller took it off the market for awhile to do a few fixes?
