Ah! - But drivers would probably still gamble with a high kerb, and the rate of any tyre deflation from it cannot be controlled!

A stinger device on the other hand means there's no gamble to be made, you're guaranteed to end up crawling back to the pits with a controlled slow puncture! :)

Moot point I'm afraid. As it stands if the curbs exact a price the teams complain and the stewards reduce them. There's no will on the FIA's part.

And therein lies the root of the problem, and the cheapest, safest and easiest solution to the whole situation:

If the FIA would stop being so wishy-washy and simply apply the rules fully and punish drivers for going over the white-lines then eventually, the drivers will make more effort to ensure it doesn't happen!

If they can punish Massa for going over the pit-lane entrance line in Brazil then they can just as easily punish other white-line infringements.

It was Massa 2 years ago, China?, who was taking too much curb on one corner in practice, hitting the back of the curb with the wheel, and ended up breaking the front suspension. He complained, nobody else had any problem, so the curbs were not touched. Doofus (Massa) kept taking too much curb, in the race drove the same way, broke the suspension again exactly the same way. Then complained that the curbs were unsafe and caused the problem. He never figured out that maybe it was his line that should have changed, since nobody else was driving that far over the curb or breaking their cars... Same as Brazil actually, all drivers were warned, several drivers along with Massa were warned during the racing to stop going all 4 wheels over the hatched lines, only Massa didn't comply, only Massa got the penalty.

Agreed that the FIA stewards need to consistently enforce white line infringements. Drivers can always slow down to comply - they might not like it, but it's better than the drive through penalties.

That makes sense but when the red mist lowers such rationality departs.
In both cases Massa got what he deserved.

No one's happy when the stewards act. Better for there to be a direct physical consequence.

Kimi as well with luck! JB is just making an observation based on a SIMULATOR run. Hardly the same as real car and the tires are a MAJOR question right now. :)

Kimi won it because of the bitter feud at mclaren. They gave the title to Kimi. But, no denial Kimi was in a good run at the end of it.

I agree with your comments on the simulator.

While the FIA has rules against "active" traction control, Id like to think the F1 engineers will utilize boost by gear, a speed vs wheel speed vs boost, along other clever tuning features to keep the cars from breaking loose.
