Depends on what report you want to believe that on.
On Alonso:

FWIW, I would have been fuming if I had gone to that race and they put Button back down to 4th, there was enough crap flying around anyway with the SC, Button pitted 6 times, and deserved the win.

 

I saw it on TV that was better than any report. This was Alonso's corner.

The FIA did in general intervene in that race too many times, but sadly not where it was necessary.

 

I see Button ahead with the racing line, but then Alonso brake alot later.. I still maintain 50/50 racing incident. I like to see drivers have a go, it can go either way, last year if Button had tried that, his car would have been in bits.

As far as I'am concerned the less penalities the better, stick em where the sun don't shine.

I saw it on TV as well. IIRC Button disappeared forward from the shot for a time. Seemed to me he got in front.

 

JB has been around a lot longer than Hamilton. He went through his head-scratcher moments also en route to becoming a more polished driver. One should expect him to be more mature than Hamilton.

 

I agree that Alonso was ahead, but I presume the reason(s) Button wasn't penalized was a) he had the inside line so he wasn't "forced" to concede it to Alonso AND b) he won the race so penalizing him would have ruined "the Show".

I thought JB could have been penalized for both of his crash incidents...

They should have given him the penalty during the race, there was enough time.

Alonso was ahead by half a car length. Anybody who doesn't see that is blind. This is crystal clear, the corner belonged to Alonso and Button should have backed down. Simple really.

 

When a front wheel of one car hits the back wheel of another, it's pretty obvious who's ahead.

Watch the video in post #28 again - at the braking point, Button WAS ahead. Button braked sooner than Alonso, so Alonso gained half a car length by the time he turned in...

But Button WAS braking, and I'd bet he was braking pretty much on the limit, being on the inside line that had less traffic and thus, in the wet, less grip. How exactly do you suggest he was supposed to "back down", when he was already braking on the limit? There is no "back down"... and Alonso would know that full well.

Alonso, on the other hand, chose to brake later on the higher grip line, so he gained half a car length. Fine, THEN Alonso CHOSE to turn in on Button, who he knew was right there because he'd just seen the nose of Button's car ahead of his. There is no disputing that Button's car was ahead of Alonso's as they began braking for the chicane. Alonso saw him there, knew he was there, yet turned in and hit Button.

Button was on the very inside, almost riding the curb - he had nowhere to go. Alonso had all the rest of the track to leave room for Button's car on the inside, but Alonso CHOSE to turn in to the apex where he knew Button's car would be. Again, exactly where do you suggest Button was supposed to put his car, when he was already braking at the limits of traction, and as far over to the inside as he could get? Button couldn't go anywhere - it was Alonso's choice to hit him.

 

I was going to answer you by saying most folks that make idiotic statements like the first one usually come from 'unsubscribed', so I was not disappointed to see that in this case.

MOST of the folks here that may not have a lot of respect for Hammy the person DO respect his driving abilities.

 

ok...but Alonso was still ahead at impact and the gap at the apex was always going to close...it's just how it is...so well...I don't know...I don't race F1....but he didn't get a penalty where others did during the course of the race, and I can't see why he wouldn't have if the stewards thought he deserved it since others did. They gave Button a drive through when he deserved it...I can only assume...no penalty, no fault. There's no reason to think it was anything other than a racing incident, no matter what we, the peanut gallery, thinks.

Hamilton has an attitude and says a lot of things that rub many of us the wrong way

...but DAMN that boy can drive!

Being a tifosi means you support Ferrari with all your heart, but you still give respect where it is due... and Hamilton is a VERY gifted racing driver, has great natural speed, and attempts and pulls off many daring passes that others can't, that much we have to concede (as distasteful as some of us on here find it)...
