Very sad to read this, he has been a great support to his son, and he must have been so proud of Jenson when he got his WDC.

RIP a great loss I'am sure he will be missed by all in F1.

    +1 :(

Dayum! As Fpiloto noted, would have been high on my list of guys to share a beer with. Always smiling and seemed to really enjoy life.

    RIP dude.

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS. Not at all speaking ill, but his, shall we say, 'fashion sense' did leave a little to be desired on occasion! ;)

Twice at Monza and most recently in the Austin paddock in November, I'd come across Mr. Button several times. Never once did I see anything but a huge smile on his face and a lot of laughter. Following the 2010 Italian Grand Prix, we happened upon him departing the circuit in a 599 Fiorano. Another big smile and a kind wave. Jenson had just finished 2nd following a close fight with Alonso's Ferrari, and I laughed wondering what Ron Dennis might have thought of John Button's chosen mode of transport.

Sorry to hear that. John Button always looked like the sort of fellow one would like to meet.

As Wikipedia said about him: "His charismatic and charming personality made him a favourite among viewers, and throughout the years he came to be a massively popular figure on the Formula 1 paddocks."

That is very sad for the family... I remember watching outside the Brawn guest area in Monaco 2009, him and Adrian Newey in a long conversation sitting on the steps. He seemed to fit right into the scene. Of course JB won the next day.

Not only that...He was Jenson in every single race but 1, when John was ill himself. Fantastic.

Far too soon as many have said, and also would love to have had a beer with him.

@Ian. The open shirt was part of his charm :D

RIP John Button. What a pity, the man in the eternal pink shirt, one of the kindest F1 "dads" has disappeared. Condoleances to Jenson & Family.

Very sad. At least he got the chance to see Jenson's success when he became a WDC back in 2009.

    R.I.P Mr Jon.

My condolences to Jenson & family.

He was obviously very supportive of his son as he was at nearly every race. Always smiling and he seemed like a great guy! Very sad indeed.

Oh man, thats shockingly way too young. What a sad winter so far. My brother in-law passed away last week in Toulouse, France. He was in a coma at the same time as Schumacher. Mr. Button must be one hell of a cool dad. John also raced didn't he?RIP John Button.

Sympathy for the family but the old bloke lived a good life and witnessed his son become a WDC.

    Yes John did race.
From Jenson Button’s early days karting in Frome, Somerset, to his 2009 championship triumph in at Interlagos, his father John Button, who has died of a suspected heart attack aged 70, was a guiding and ever-present support.
“We’ve done it Dad, what we’ve all worked for,” Jenson told John in Brazil, after fulfilling his dream of winning the drivers’ title.
Affectionately known as “the old boy”, or “Papa Smurf” to the Formula One paddock, John Button was always at Jenson’s side as he followed him through the lower formulas to his debut with Williams in 2000. He enjoyed his own successful career in rallycross in the 1970s,and missed only a handful of his son’s races.
Jenson, who has been left “devastated” at his father’s death, now faces preparing for a Formula One season without his biggest fan for the first time.
