Is there anything wrong with buying a used watch movement from ebay (with a company name like AP or A. Lange) and putting it in my own watch and selling it?

As long as its described properly, you should be ok.

If you are thinking of doing this on a large scale, you would need a decent stock of these and parts.

You're saying, if I describe my watch as having a Patek Philippe movement but (company name) case it's proper?
It's more of a one-off novelty but a very nice movement will set my selling point nicely.

It'll be a frankenwatch. Of no value to collectors, but you may find a buyer with similar tastes as yourself.

Plenty of companies do it already. Greib & Benzinger, Towson, RGM, etc.

They must do it with consent, correct?
Would it be any different if I purchased an AP movement on ebay, put it in my watch, described it as having an AP movement but selling it with my name on the dial?

I don't believe they have to have consent but that being said they are all very clear about what movement is inside. I think if you tried to claim the movement as your own would be when you would run into problems. Kind of like, I don't have to ask GM for permission to put a Corvette motor in my hot rod.

As already mentioned on here though you should be sure to have plenty of parts to repair the watch in the future.

Or have a watch repair source if I myself or the owner runs into any trouble. Thank you for your input.

Alternately, if it is a good movement, have the original factory overhaul and recase it for you.
