Has to do with what "CPO" means. My understanding is simply this: 1) Car must pass an inspection ** 2) Well, there is no #2. * *be very careful...just saying "CPO" does NOT = "comes with longer warranty" (like with most - if not all - other brands). Many dealers advertise CPO but then its up to the buyer to decide whether (or not) to get an extended warranty. ** it would surprise me if the inspection criteria cared one way or the other about the car having been damaged and repaired. Key word being "repaired". It it performs like its supposed to, then it certainly can pass the inspection.
Because if Ferrari repairs it, 'there is no devaluation"......is the Factory position. Ahem.....jus' sayin'......... Would be interesting to know the details, that avoided the reporting of the repairs. I suppose an in house 'incident' would avoid scrutiny. A wreck on public roads or involving insurance underwriters, there are legal procedures for reporting. What exacty happend to it? Anyone know?? Was this the one dropped off the deck by the carrier??
I dont see the problem. The car fax is clean just like they advertised. The car had an accident. Maybe even a bad one. If it was fixed correctly this shouldnt be a problem. Its us Ferrari owners that insist that any used F car has never been driven, driven regularly, never gotten wet, never left in direct sunlight, never revved past 2000 RPMs etc. Its just a car.
I agree, but the dealer has denied any accident, thats a problem. If the car has been in a serious accident it should be information given to the next owner. The problem is the car is probably $20,000-$30,000 over priced for a damaged car. The price of $142,000 is top dollar for a 06 F430 with these miles.....Why would someone buy a F430 with extensive damage for $140's when they can buy a creampuff for $140k. This is the reason the car has been tossed around Penske dealers and not sold. It was at the Penske Porsche dealer at one point. I just think they need to be honest, you expect this from the "shady used car lot". not a Ferrari Authorized Dealer.
Too many people place a lot of faith in CARFAX. CARFAX is only as good as the information loaded. I bought a pre-owned Corvette in Scottsadale, AZ back in 1990 (no CARFAX or internet for me then). I owned the car for 12 years. I ran a CARFAX before I sold it in 2002 to see the history. CARFAX reported in sold new in Peoria, IL in 1989 and then no history of it ever being in AZ. The next record showed up in 1998 when I titled it in Alaska and then again in 2000 when I titled it in FL. The car was in AZ from 1990 to 1998 - no records.
yes, carfax is a joke. Not worth the paper its written on...although I certainly get one (and the other one who's name I forget) before spending $$$ on exotics...but, its just "some data" and not definitive. That said, that is not the "issue" here...Zinger described that above...
Due to this thread and many threads prior to this one regarding this exact car I have SCOTTSDALE FERRARI embedded in my brain now, I would never consider anything they are selling, period. Sleezy. Its really bad business practice. Instead of being honest about the car they lie and dress it up with CPO, change to autocheck, and detail the heck out of the car in hopes of some nieve first time customer who saves all his/her life to buy their first Ferrari and they laugh to the bank....I myself am rather particular about cars I buy. I have a paint gauge, know the areas to look for respray roughness, accident damage consisting of uneven gaps in panels, orange peel variations, "fish eye" imperfections in paint adhesion etc...but many consumers do not. I wish all could be aware of this car who may consider it. Fchat is such an amazing site/tool for purchasing a Ferrari. Eventually she will sell. Every car out their deserves a owner. I just think the information should be clear and let known and the price to reflect those unfortunate repairs/accident that occurred. -Ryan
I have been in the market for a blue Spider and found an '08 at Scottsdale. I spoke to the dealer and he said he had no service records at all of any form for the car. I haven't called back given this thread, rational or not.
Thats a decision you need to make. I'm sure they have many legit cars but for me I would keep looking especially with 0 records, just my 2 cents.
Just passedo on this car, a mont or so ago. Brought the accident history to the dealerships attention. Salesman, and sales manager. I think it will continue to be marketed as an "accident free" Ferrari until they pawn it off on someone. I said it before and I'll say it again. Just be HONEST about it, price it accordingly and it will sell. I of course don't want to pay cream puff price for a 430 that's been in an accident. But the bigger concern is, if they were misleading about *this* what else don't I know about the car? Just ugly all the way around....
Just to clairify- does the Scottsdale ad say it's accident free, or merely CPO'ed? Just trying to get the facts as a car can technically be CPO'ed and still have accident history, and there are some buyers that might not think to ask if there was an accident. Don't get me wrong, for the premium of a CPO dealership bought ferrari I'd expect NO STORIES, but the dealer may be "threading the needle" hoping to get someone who doesn't know to ask or doesn't care to ask about prior history if the car appears "nice looking and with a warranty".
Look for my thread on "Scottsdale Ferrari" I posted a screen shot from their site that said "Accident Free" their words.. not Carfax.
Looks like someone is about to buy it. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=304667652&dealer_id=53500992&car_year=2006&systime=&doors=&position=top&model=F430&search_lang=en&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&search_type=both&distance=0&min_price=&rdm=1321137454930&drive=&marketZipError=false&advanced=&fuel=&keywords_display=&lastBeginningStartYear=1981&end_year=2012&showZipError=y&make2=&certified=&engine=&dma=SAN_FRANCISCO-OAK-SAN_JOSE_NO&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&body_code=0&transmission=&isFlashPlugin=true&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&color=&address=94062&sort_type=priceASC&max_price=&make=FER&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=643&standard=false&rdpage=thumb
by the way, don't you have to report to the dmv if it is over certain damage? Also when you sell your car, you need to sign a disclosure statment about that?

Car fax is a HUGE false sense of security fyi, don't depend on it for anything other than knowing what's on it for when you go to sell the car.
Hate carfax. I am stuck with a 2002 q45 cause of it. Carfax didnt show it had frame damage. When i tried to trade it in to the same dealer a year later Auto check showed it did, and they wouldnt take it back.
