I've been lurking for 6 months now on Fchat while I search for a 360. Think I found a well-maintained 2000 360 F1 with documented 15k service, belts & clutch done 3k miles ago last April.

I will be shipping the car from the East coast to the West coast. I've got a few questions and was hoping someone could help answer:

    1. The seller has only 1 key and has no books, no cover, and no luggage. Where can I order additional keys and get a book and cover? And how much will it cost?

    2. The car has a Tubi exhaust on it but the seller has the stock exhaust too. I can't transport the stock exhaust with the car so if I want the stock exhaust, I would have to pay to ship it home. Is it worth paying $200-$300 to ship the stock exhaust to me? Or is the stock exhaust not worth much and I should forget about it?

    3. Recommendations on enclosed transport? I got a quote of $2k from high-end Intercity Lines and $1200 from low-end DAS Shippers. What other enclosed shippers are worth looking into?

    Thanks!

The lack of all the keys (one red master, two blacks) is a pretty expensive deal IIRC, maybe $1K???

After that books will be easy!!!

There's an alarm PIN but it's somewhere in the books....I don't understand how people "lose" all these very important itmes....PITA to fix......

The cover is no big deal, luggage was an option anyway, may not have had it...

Ship the original exhaust in case you don't like the shrillness of the Tubi, that gets old on long hauls......IMO...the system, even stock, can be big bucks, get it.....

You need to clarify re key : do you mean key or fob - non-Ferrari keys to suit can be bought and cut - fobs - well just read some of the sagas here - can be cloned

Books etc can be bought on Ebay or downloaded

Surely the spare exhaust can be transported with the car

Luggage ? This was an incredibly expensive option so effectively no car comes with it

Lots of your questions (eg transport) have had and will have answers for previous askers

When I sold my 911 I put the secondary muffler I had removed in a box and put it in the car (the car was purchased by someone all the way in Germany and I told them I'd give them the stock exhaust). Is the stock 360 muffler too big to wrap and carefully put in the car without ripping/marking up the interior? Maybe not if it has all the pipes and stuff attached?

I wouldn't bother with either the luggage or the cover. Was the cover standard too? My car had everything with it (including some tool boxes in the original plastic wrap), but no cover. I doubt the prior 2 owners of my car would be that anal but lose the cover, but who knows? I'm one of the few who don't cover my car in the garage- I need to see the car every day especially now in the winter when I can't drive it :) I'll give it a good cleaning in the spring (nothing really gets on it in the garage anyway...)

Good luck sleeping when your car is in route, and best of luck with your new purchase!

Keys are no big deal, but the fob remotes are. It should have three, like Tex said. Price for original alarm PIN from an FNA dealer, ~$500. Price for new set of three fobs, $500-750. Or just clone your fob. Price is then cost of a new or used fob plus shipping and down time. Some people charge to clone, some do it for free.

Books you can buy on E-Bay or FerrariAds, but you will likely never be able to put a complete set together because some (alarm manual, radio docs, warranty book) rarely come up for sale.

    The long way home

Car cover, seat covers and steering wheel cover were standard items.

Tellyc - most enclosed shippers will accommodate "extras" such as the exhaust... I've done this one several occasions with several different carriers. Use a company that is well recommended with experience handling these cars (I'm sure others can chime in). No point in saving a few bucks on the shipping if you have to do some costly repairs once it arrives.

    Congrats on the purchase!

My 2000 360 also only came with one fob so I am having it cloned next week (with insurance during delivery in case it ends up missing)

Oh yeah the car came with a security code FOR A DIFFERENT CAR!!!!

If it is included make sure it is for your car.

    Good luck.

Bob- I have seen the VINs screwed up on the PIN documents. Make sure it is not yours by trying to start the car with the key and PIN alone. There is a checklist in this document on how to do that.

I had my 360 shipped from Florida to California. The cost was $1800.00 to my door in an enclosed trailer, insured.

I had it to my door in perfect condition in 5 days. The driver Patrick was a great guy I think he transports for a challenge team in his off time. Patrick actually referred me to this site. I’ll have to find his card but I would use him again any time. If you’re interested PM me and I’ll give you his phone number.

If the car is missing stuff it's usually because a dealer took it along the way when they sold it. Or, the car wound up at an auction. A complete car is more indicative of few owners taking good care of it. Not unless you're getting a killer deal on it I'd be a little suspicious of why you're not getting these items that'll cost a few bucks to gather up. Did you get a PPI on it? Have you looked at the car yourself? Has it had paint work, is all the service up to date? With the amount of 360's around personally I'd find a no stories, complete i.e all the books, covers, keys, records, service up to date etc. What about a Carfax or Autocheck on it? How many owners? Did you call the service department of where the car was serviced and talk to them and request a copy it's service history? Sorry to be harsh but it's easy to overlook this stuff when you really want one of these cars. If you set up realistic rules for your search you'll wind up with a more trouble free car and you'll save in the long run. Good luck with your purchase.

All - thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Really appreciate it. The car has had 3 owners and did go through the auction once. So I think that's where the dealer took it.

I did have an PPI done on the car by a reputable independent Ferrari mechanic (a shop that was recommended FChat previously). Carfax is clean and car has had no paintwork except for front bumper respray. Belts were done 3k miles ago (6 months ago) as was the clutch.

    I'm getting excited!

I'd definitely get the standard exhaust shipped. As previously mentioned your carrier should be able to accommodate you. Equally, there should be no problem whatsoever getting it sufficiently well wrapped to be placed inside the car for transport. Having recently taken mine off there's no question that in it's component pieces it would easily fit inside.

Best of luck with your ownership.

the radio is another item you will need a code for. If you change the battery or the battery goes dead, the battery will reset the radio and you will only get it to work if you have the code. Also good luck even with a manual on figuring out the radio controls!!!!
there are several web sites that will sell you the code, but you will have to get the ser. # off the radio. There is a special set of "hooks" that come with the manuals to get the radio out. If not you might want to go to a radio shop and they should have them. I got my code for about $ 10.00.
if the car is a US version, some of the dealers will write down the code and put it in a file on the car, so if you can find the orginal dealer you might get lucky.
I got lucky on a tool kit and bought one for 500. I have seen them for $ 2,000.00 on ebay. and a complet set of manuals for 500 (same seller). I think there is a complete set on ebay now for 1,400.00.
you can call the differant dealers and some might have a old manual in stock (but not the complet set). I found one in a FL dealership for less than 100, before i found my set with holder.

Also on shipping you get what you pay for.. I had a car shipped for the mid west to Tn. The shipper said that it would be on one truck all the way to my house and would have tracking info... After i paid, it took two weeks for them to pick up the car, shipped on atleast two differant trucks and a week and a half to get to me. After I got the car in the garage I found where the car was on bottom and the car above leaked something on the top (white top). I did not have a photo of the top before I got the car, so i was out of luck. I keep the top down, but I have still keep putting cleaning things on the top to get the spot out... so when you get the car, make sure you have good photos and go over the car very well before you sign off. On the flip side, I had a shipper deliver a car to me and he pointed out things that I did not even see when I bought the car, minor but still nice that he was honest (or covering his butt).

Thanks for the enzo key offer. I think I'll take you up on it! The seller only has 1 black key. I'll PM you.

I'll be flying to NJ tomorrow morning at 8:30am to see the car in person, then hopefully heading over to a bank to complete the transaction. I'm getting excited! Thanks again everyone for the feedback and help.

David - I used Steve Arena at Arena Motors. He's been mentioned a few times on FChat and has a good reputation on the board. His shop is in Lodi, NJ, about 15-20 minutes from Newark airport.

    www.arena-motors.com

I spoke to Steve on the phone and met him in person today. He's a pretty stand-up guy and runs a pretty good shop. There was a 430, a couple of 360, a couple of 355's, Mondial, a few Lambo's in his shop. After meeting Steve and talking to him for a bit, I would definitely recommend him.
