What is the draw back to buying a born and raised 360 from the east coast, and bringing to the west coast. considering worse weather/road conditions. Would you buy an east of the Rockies fcar? Or wait to find one here on the west coast? What are the other draw backs of buying from the east?
Make an adventure out of it. Fly out there after a PPI is done. If the car is what you want drive it back.
Southern cars are okay as we don't get much (if any) snow and thus no salt. My car started life in NJ then to SC and then to NC. No signs of any issues. I would bet that the guys up in the NE don't drive their cars in the winter. Alan
OP Do you really think any owners actually drive their cars in the salt and muck? Really? Everyone waits until nicer weather to drive them. PPI should show any issues.. Transportation is the next big issue, cost.
cost me $1400 to ship my girlfriends Audi A8L from Florida to Calif...open air vehicle transport...no damage issues at all and it went smoothly.
weather is irrelevant. i'd bet 99% of our cars never seen rain, let alone snow and salty roads. don't let the area determine where to buy your car from. personally i wouldn't drive it back though i'd ship it. lotta miles, rock chips, and potential dangerous i wouldn't want to expose my new ferrari to.
no one drives these cars on the west coast where the weather is perfect, do you really think a east coast car ever saw rain or snow ? The car will be fine. Like everyone else has said, the delivery costs is the issue, these cars dont get the best mileage and every road sign will be pointing to a new road that must be driven, I can easily see it taking a week or 2 trying all the roads between there and here. That means you also have to add 2 weeks hotel/food costs into your delivery costs. GO FOR IT ! I bought my car only 1,100 miles away, wish it had been 3 times that distance just for the drive but that drive home is something I will NEVER forget.
When I shipped mine from the east coast to CA it was about 2,200 with an enclosed carrier. I would not purchase a car remotely without looking at it, and being there for the PPI. Sure, it is additional expense, but also a good educational experience, and probably more of a piece of mind. At least for me. Whether east coast, SW, or West coast, it does not matter much, it all depends how it was maintained, stored and driven over the years. Would be leary of some of the states that flooded over the years, but a PPI will show that too. Good luck.
I had mine shipped from the lowest city (geographically) in TX to NY for $1800 in an enclosed trailer. Took only 5 days... As for the rain/snow/salt thing, mine barely sees clouds... I know, it's pathetic
Thant being said: What do you guys think about this one. Cars for Sale: 2002 Ferrari 360 Spider F1 in Grandville, MI 49418: Convertible Details - 345634600 - AutoTrader.com
See what Foreign Cars Italia have in stock in Greensboro NC. I would be glad to look it over for you and take a video with my iPhone. Of course you are asking the selling dealer to do a PPI but they are an honest bunch and I'm sure there would be come back if there was anything they misrepresented. I will certainly keep looking at there site and if something pops up I will take you up on the offer I am looking for a 2002 - 2004 Rosa Corsa/Tan F1 Spider
One of the funnier things I've read on here this week. No difference on an east coast car. If anything you might find lower mileage examples in the NE due to the weather (only driven a few months a year for the most part)
There are no drawbacks. These are not DD for the most part. The chances of it being driven in salt and snow are remote. I have bought Ferraris from Rochester, NY and Menomenee, MI. Flew in and drove home. great experiences. Just inspect the car and do your homework. Buy with your head and not your heart and you will be fine. Everyone in the US is terrified of weather on their Ferrari. If you have ever been to Maranello, when the cars come off the line they get test driven on the roads around the factory....... doesn't matter if it's sunny, raining or snowing...... they come out of the gates and are driven. And when they leave the factory for shipping, they are on open carriers, not enclosed!
