    Hi
I am finally looking into buying a F430 and am currently looking at two cars. Both red with black interior. I have bought two 355's before so I know it it pretty important to get all books and keys. What should I be looking for in terms of keys, books etc.

I have also tried to find a good write up with regards to buying 430's but haven't found one, has anyone seen one here or else were?

    /Johan

It's best to get the car with everything it came with when new, but you can't always have that, especially if buying from a dealer. This is what I know you should get: 2 red keys, mine had 3 code cards for the keys and 3 code cards for the stereo (but you only need 2 and 1, respectively), all manuals on a beige leather pouch that fits perfectly in the glove box lid, the tool box with all tools inside the 'trunk', as well as the compressor with a bottle of 'goop' in case of a flat. Mine also had the 2 tools to remove the stereo (nice!), another pouch to put the removable stereo face, and very nice leather pouch with actual photos of my car while being built, called 'VIP'. Other than that, my car also had the factory red car cover and a red steering wheel cover inside a red nylon bag; all with the Ferrari logo. Finally, Ferrari dealers are NOT interconnected, so you should get maintenance history from previous owner, or you might never know what was done to the car. And from personal experience, try to be present at the PPI, and CHECK THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT. If you're going to transport the car, make sure it has an AGM (gel) battery in there to prevent a leak during transit, like it happened to me. And if you're not present at the PPI, check all fluid levels when you get the car; most will probably need a top off to the max line, where I like to have them. It's better to buy a car with maintenance recently done, so you don't have to worry about that for a while, especially if you don't have a dealer close by, and you're not the DIY type. Good luck man.

I would add the F430 comes with a "Ferrari" silver Mag light that fits in its spot in the glovebox (two leather straps with snaps.) The most important books to get are the Owner's Manual (the think one that will have the model year and car on the front) and the Service and Warranty Book. You can't get another service book for your car from Ferrari if the original is ever misplaced. There is another thick book for the stereo (infotainment)- and actually they come come with two originally in order to cover all the various languages, stereo warranty booklet, dealer locator book, accessories manual, quick reference guide, tire pamphlet, lemon law book, the above mentioned code cards, etc. Also, the original window sticker. Sometimes you'll find this folded up and slipped in the outer pocket of the book pouch. As mentioned too, each one came with a VIP "birth book" which is in a red leather sleeve inside a red box inside a brown cardboard box. If it has the front CD changer, check for a CD magazine. If it's a Spider, it should have the windscreen piece and a black leather zipper storage pouch for it. Also, if it is from about midway through 2007 or later, it will have a battery tender and user manual/booklet in a red pouch which snaps inside the car cover pouch. Oh, and the car cover originally comes with the red car cover, red steering wheel cover, and 2 red seat covers- all in a red bag.

Thanks for adding that. I have the flashlight too, but need to check batteries :). Haven't used the car cover, but need to check for the seat covers; hope they're there. And finally know what the heck that vinyl black cover is for < he he>. I thought the windscreen was supposed to be permanently installed, so didn't ring a bell. Plus car doesn't look too nice with the 2 holes in there, not to mention the buffeting you might get without it, no?

Finally, my car has all manuals, as stated, but was surprised to find the maintenance booklet empty, with just the first page filled out with the original owner's personal info. Guess some Ferrari dealers are too lazy to fill it out. The second manuals with different languages were missing, but I'd have thrown them away anyway. And threw away the tire warranty booklet since it's useless now. There was another little booklet with all Ferrari dealers, which I obviously kept. Now OP (and all potential buyers) knows all that a car should come with :).

+1 Check to see if you have the seat covers. I didn't check and bought a set online. The day they arrived I put them in the bag that the car cover was in and found the original set. Now the second set is being used in my Escalade. They surprisingly fit very well.

I think the VIP book contains pics not related to the cars were are getting. My F430 is a U.S. model and the one in the pictures has European tail lights!

Its funny you said that because my VIP book shows the same exact thing. The little circle is orange and not clear. The rest of the car matches up though.

Well, and I hate to say this, but I could have sworn I've seen the exact same pictures in more than one birth book. :)
