Under 50cc, nothing special... Just something to scoot around on locally... i see them on eBay mostly between $600-$800... i've never had one before and don't know anything about them, so basically, i'm just looking for some advice... Any would be greatly appreciated... Thanks.

Haven't you got the Chrysler fixed yet? On the moped issue that seems like a lot of money for a 50cc. Years ago my dad bought my mom a scooter 50cc Yamaha Razz and new it was 600-700 bucks tops. They are fun to buzz around on but no fun in traffic of any kind. They will top out at about 30mph or so.

50cc? Are you sure you can handle that much power? I think a detuned 35cc would be better for you!

    Mopeds are like fat girls.

Fun to ride, just don't let your friends see you doing it.

The Vespa ET2 is 49 cc's and does not require a driver's license. You can buy a used one for under $2,000. They look great in red with a tan seat and yellow SF shields.

NNo_ not sure where used Vespa prices are these days, but i'd much rather have one of those than a moped. And, it will fit with the Italian heritage stuff- all you have to do is let your hair grow long and greasy, start smoking Gitane or Gauloise, stick a dog-earred copy of Satre in your back pocket and all them good ole boys down in your neck of the woods will think you've just arrived from Euro-land! Seriously, I borrow my wife's Vespa to tool down to the neighboring town to buy Le Monde all the time, i love it!

Vespas simply DRIP cool. Esp if they have a side car!

Now isn't that the most optimistic thing you could imagine, a Vespa with a side car?? :)

A Vespa would be awesome, but are they 50cc or less...? The objective here is to get something i don't have to register or insure - a toy... Anything that requires registration and insurance, at this point, won't be a toy...

GA DMV requires that any Moped/Scooter over 50cc be registered and insured - that's not what i want... They still require a valid driver's license to ride any kind of Moped, which isn't a problem, but they want registration and insurance for anything over 50cc... i'd like this to be a "toy", hence i'm looking to avoid all that red tape nonsense...

Look around at yard sales and in your local classifieds under miscellaneous often you can find mopeds in running condition listed for $100. A honda spree would be perfect for you its 49cc so you wouldn't need a special licence and it will do 35. Others are motorbecane, java and suzuki used to make one also.

I run a Gilera(Piaggio Group) Runner. Modded it so it now does 75mph from a 50cc honest officer (it now wears a 70cc big bore kit) Does help that I work in a Bike dealership. Good fun.

Those Maserati bikes are beautiful! They had a few in the Barber museum in Birmingham. As far as scooters go, there was a shop in Baltimore when I lived there that sold Aprillia 50cc scooters and they would tune them to 70cc for their customers. Always wanted one but couldn't see myself circling the beltway on one of those!

The Maseratis are a bit on the costly side. As rob said in Post #17, off-off-Broadway sections of classifieds are the way to go for a steal. I picked up a Spree for $75 oh, 'bout 12 years ago - gave it to a GF.

Urotrash's "optimisitic" comment is one of those observations that'll stay with me for a lifetime.

The Aprilia RS50 is my favorite, basically a faux sportbike with a measly 2-stroke and a stock suspension/running gear that will easily outperform the motor, but will leave you feeling giddy like a kid again. Exploring the back alleys and sidestreets in your neighborhood can be an extremely enjoyable adventure especially one with twisties and hills. Throw on a Jolly-Moto or Arrows exhaust and it will sound like an uncorked weed whacker straight from hell. If you are looking for a "hotter" version, check out this Texas tuner, you can buy a bike from them with a factory warranty.

Hip and chichi and don't want a Vespa? inquire about a Stella.
    http://www.genuinescooters.com/

If you want cheap-o yet stout enough to take many dings and drops go with a 1980s Honda Spree. As a former owner of one I can truly say that these are loads of fun and do great doughnuts in your driveway. And yes you can pop-a-wheelie as well. proof...http://www.sonicjay.com/spree/

    or...just get a pocket bike.
