Hey, gang! So excited! I'm buying a 1990 red/tan Testarossa from Motorcars of Distinction in Florida. Car looks like it's in perfect shape; it just had an engine-out major service about 4 months ago. I got what seems like a fantastic price on it....a sweetheart deal from a referral from Gustan on this board. He introduced me to Piero at the dealership, and helped negotiate the price. After we settled on a price, Piero replaced the brake calipers, fuse panel, and installed a new OEM clutch, all at no cost to me! I just had it inspected at Shelton Ferrari, and they told me it's in "great shape," with "no problems, no work needed." Carfax came back clean, so I'm pulling the trigger and buying it. $50,500 seems like a steal, and I think I've done my due diligence....so here we go! Beautiful car. We need a Testarossa at the events. I'll have to trade your a ride in my 430 for a ride in your Testarossa.
Nice. And a great price as well. Should be good for 15Kmiles of fun without a worry. When it comes to service locally, go see Carlo at Alfa of Tacoma.
Barry, Congrats on the new ride!!! Looks great!!! I hope you know that hanging out with us means you will have to DRIVE it......
Fantastic! Car looks great. My brother had a Testarossa he bought new and kept for about 15 years. It was the first Ferrari I ever drove. He keeps telling me how much better a car the Testarossa is than the Boxer. Probably true...
Thanks, guys! When it gets here, I'll definitely drive it - you'll probably laugh when you see it parked in front of some real dive bars in SE Portland. Can't wait to bring it to some events - my 308 was in for service so often that I just got sick of driving it, always afraid it was going to die on me again. Hoping that I can trust this one a little more. Going through the paperwork process right now - hopefully it'll only take a week or so to close the deal. And then shipping, as much fun as it would be to drive it home from Florida... Already "accessorizing" it in my head...I know I want to replace those black floor mats with tan ones, and I've seen some TRs with small scuderia shields that look really great...and I keep thinking about painting the ground effects to match the body...
Dude, time out here... Save the cheddar on the accessories and GET THE CAPRISTO FIRST!!! Oh, and the shields... Jeff's TR sounded amazing with the Capristo!!! Just UNREAL!!! I think one of the best sounding cars I have ever heard....
NICE CAR! Drove one of those years ago and they simply can't be beat in the iconic classic Ferrari group. Great car! Congrats on the car and the deal!
Haha - I thought really hard about it. If I had it done now, at Piero's shop, I could just roll it up into the car loan. It'd be a lot of fun....but dang, aren't I going to have fun with the standard exhaust? $5,000 seems like a lot of money to lay out just for better sound. I'm already going to be having so much fun! But I have to say - I've listened to recordings of Tubi, Capristo, and X-OST - and the Larini exhaust sounds far and away the best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXTbGI26j1E
The dash and the door handles are dark brown. I think that's the case on all the tan interiors. I think it looks pretty awful, very 1970s, but I just hate black interiors and that's the only other option. I HAVE seen someone cover that brown plastic with nice tan leather, and it looks a thousand times better. I'll probably at least look into doing that, but not this summer. Congratulatiuons on your purchase. I got mine in February. A tan dash would be blinding in the sunlight. I covered my brown dash with a black, brushed suede dash cover by Dash Designs, sold by Dashmat, http://www.godashmat.com/dash_designs_dashboard_covers_brushed_suede.asp No glare, no ugly brown. It has cutouts to go around the defroster vents. Nice fit. Note: The blue hue in the picture is the camera's fault. It really is black. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am running a Capristo Level 2 exhaust on mine. Nice 12 cylinder sound at low RPM's changing to F1 scream higher up. Not as loud as the Larini (thank God) . The Capristo is at the limit of tolerable sound levels in the cabin. Shop around, you can get them for less than 5k. As great as the Larini sounds you may find it too loud in the cabin on long trips. Looking forward to seeing your car in the future.
Barry, Listen to the man, he won the award for best V12 at Cannon Beach this year.... And he didn't have to spend $6.00 on saltwater taffy....
That does look nice - any pictures of it installed? I'm having a hard time picturing unbearable glare bouncing off of tan leather, though. This is Portland, not Phoenix! I'm trying to remember the dash colors I've had over the years. There was a Saturn with tan plastic with no problems. And I'm sure I've seen a *white* leather dashboard on a Countache and some muscle cars....right? And for someone who's signature quote is "You lost me at 'It does not need 700 horses," you lost me at "...the limit of tolerable sound levels." I'd love to hear your Capristo at one of these events, before I make a purchase, though!
All tan does look nice and bright! Black tends to show wear less. Here's my Uncle's in black/tan (granted it's only a 22k mile car). Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm in Seattle, I know about the light around here. It's not glare from the Tan itself but the reflection of the bright Tan on the inside of your windshield that causes the problem. Just for fun, lay a large piece of white paper on your dashboard and drive around on a sunny day. It's really quite distracting. A light colored dash on a darker grey day may not be an issue but most of my driving is on the brighter days, hence the dark dash. Being a native my eyes are like that of a Mole, not used to the bright light. That quote belongs to Mark E. Click on the "More Power" link in my sig. Mark has a problem with needing large HP numbers. His last project was a blown 308QV making over 500 HP to the rear wheels. He is currently building a 365 V12 with Testarossa heads for his 308QV. Astounding stuff. Sort of a hero in my book.------------------------------Horsepower/exhaust noises and deafness do not have to go hand in hand Talk to Sonny (F355 Spider), he can hook you up with Jeff and his Capristo equipped TR in the Portland area. Some quick shots in the garage. The flash washes everything out but under natural light it looks nice. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can finally revive this old thread! Been on the road since June - I think I hit 12 countries this summer! - but I'm back in the States now and finally closing this deal. Flew down to Fort Lauderdale last weekend to see the car and meet Piero at Motorcars of Distinction. Car looked incredible! Like it just came off the showroom...I can't imagine an 18 y/o car looking better than this. I was really impressed. Test drove it...stomped on the brakes, stomped on the gas, swung it from side to side, did everything I could think of, and couldn't find any funny noises or vibrations or smells or anything else. Signed the paperwork and gave him all my cash. Doing the loan paperwork with Woodside now, getting insurance through Grundy, and arranging shipping with G & L Enterprises. Should be up here in Portland in a couple of weeks, I hope. Had big plans to paint the wheels black, put on fender shields, and maybe a glass panel on the decklid...but the car is so cherry, and so perfectly original that all that seems disrespectful, now. My real camera died a couple of weeks ago, but here are some cell phone pics. Anyone spot anything weird, that I didn't?
