Howdy, I was checking 3200GT prices, and I saw that I can get a low mileage example for good money (big choice here in Switzerland). For those who doesn't know, it is the Twin Turbo V6 model, the precursor to the 4200GT.

I can get a 12 month warranty on one. Is it worth getting one? What if I keep one beyond 12 months?

What about a used 996 Porsche Carrera?

its actually the 3.2 V8 TT engine, great engine but requires the cambelt change like a ferrari.

That's not too bad. How reliable are the turbos?

Great car. No issues from the turbos except CEL problems due to faulty O2 sensors and the Drive By Wire throttle. I don't own one. Told to me by a friend who works in Malaysia's Ferrari/Maserati dealer...Almost bought one if not for the fact that all used and for sale 3200GTs were Autobox-ed...

Yeah, that is a problem, too many autoboxs, and crappy ones at that, 4 speeds.

Actually many say the 4speed auto matched the manic 3200 bi-T engine better than the manual. I never tried one at the time and went for the manual which is BTW the same gearbox as the last gen BMW M5.

The going rate is between 60,000 Swiss francs for a private, high mileage car, to 85,000 (sometimes 90K) for a dealership car with low mileage and a 12 month warranty.

Nah, I'd take the manual. I hope by next spring maybe the 4200 will sufficiently drop in price, if not, I am seriously tempted by a 3200.

    75,000 Swiss francs = 59,400 USD

    Hmm, almost 456 territory though.

All opinions I read, said the 456 was expensive to maintain. Besides the Maser would be almost 5 years younger.

The Swiss 456GT M Prices with lowish mileage are around 100K for private and 110 for Dealership.

i think servicing a 456 would be just a tadd more expensive than a Maser Gt

    Just bought one.

    Grey metallic with black interior.

102.000 km on the clock but the car received a new engine at 70.000 km (there are quite a lot of 3200 GTs in the market with a previous blown engine).

The car carries the "GT" for a reason. Not unsporty, but definitely no match compared to a mid-engined Ferrari.

Great car but dont underestimate it . Esp on the wet . Its not the same car as a 4200 Coupe . Those Turbos have wrecked more than a few , even in straight line .

I can vividly remember that above all roundabouts (partic. in the wet!) were difficult to master in the 3200GT. Too few revs in a gear and you feel you're stalling, too many and those bi-turbos light up and take the rear out with them...

    Fun

I skipped a RUF Porsche (BTR) for the 3200 GT .. .. compared to the RUF the Maser is tame as a bunny ;-)

456 or 3200GT for same money? Of course 456, no brainer. 456 cost three times as much when new and will hold value better in long run.

Maintenance cost is not a big factor, they are both used italian exotics. Plus, the 456 chasis is leagues ahead more solid than 3200.

3200 great to look at but not a great drive. My personal first hand opinion. Go for a 4200 if possible, best value on market given it has basically a 360 engine.
