I live in Colorado. If I buy a used car from a Texas car dealer do I have to pay any Texas sales tax? I assume I will pay the sales tax in Colorado when I register the car. Also if I buy the used car from a private party I assume there is no sales tax.

You pay sales tax in the state you register it. This goes for private or dealership.

Now, IF you purchase from a Dealer, you will pay the taxes for your home state to the dealer, who then sends it in for you.

Agree......But for what it costs to register one in Colorado you may want to take up residence in Texas. Plates here will only cost you about $60. Much more in Colorado.

    Not so fast Steve...

The dealer will only collect (out of state) taxes if you obtain financing from them. If you come in with your own $ or financing, the dealer does not have to collect taxes.
