...off Craigslist. NIB, still sealed Ipod Touch 64GB, for about 1/2 price. I'll have the serial number from the seller in the morning, before we meet (very public place of course). Is there somewhere I can check the serial number to make sure it hasn't been reported stolen to Apple, or "blocked" by ITunes, or something like that? (or is there even any such thing? maybe I'm worrying too much about this..) Seems like some kid who got it as a gift and needs cash - but I'd like to check it out as much as possible.
They should be able to trace it with the serial number if it was stolen only if the original owner registered it with Apple or some other ipod registry. There's even been some debate whether Apple should have a kill switch built in to Ipods in case they're stolen.
Thanks! I found a place on Apple website where I could enter the serial number to get support options. I entered it and it asked me to Register the Ipod first. That gives me some confidence that it has actually not been used by anyone. It also says it is late 2009 3rd gen, so NIB is probably true. I'll find out in a few hours....
Well, deed was done - covert meeting at a local Wendy's. He handed Ipod over table, I checked serial number and intact seals. Handed $200 over the table, and we left. No telling what the other people in there thought was going on. Guy said he got it in the mail from a family member as a Christmas present. Was going to pick up an 8GB for my daughter for Christmas, but now she'll get a 64GB.
