In my travels during the last week I have come across a '93 348 TS in rough but running shape. The car has a cracked front bumper, needs a battery, has a rough interior, poor paint, a cracked windshield, 4 tires from 4 different manufacturers, no clutch and a weird crack in the driver's side C pillar.

The thing is, I am looking for a project car and where I live running project cars are few and far between. I like 348s, but never had one. The car would be very cheap and might be easier to remove the engine from than a Testarossa (the parts are probably cheaper too). In the worst case I could part it out but that would make me a bit sorry for it. The Motronic 2.7 probably makes the car more driveable and more reliable than the KE Jetronic in the TR (and the 348 runs far better at about one third the cost of a sick project TR).

I have an idea about the cost of parts and where to find used ones so I have an idea what I am getting in to.

My question is regarding the crack on the "C" pillar (see attached pic, sorry about the crap photography) it is near the top of the C pillar, not the usual place at the bottom of the C pillar like I have seen on 355s. Anyone seen this before?

Sorry, but I don't have an answer to your question. Just gotta say I'm a little jealous. Sounds like you found the perfect project car. No big problems, just a lot of little things. You can get it running and have fun driving it while accumulating parts for the cosmetic stuff. Lucky you! You'll love the 348!

Be very very carfull, i brought a project 348 early on this year for £17,500 and it was a runner i drove it back 100 miles same as you thought i could fix it up on the cheap. The thing is Ferrari and cheap do not go. As we speak the car stands me £45,000 but that inc 4 360 wheels a new Tubi, full leather re trim, all new suspenshion and a killer paint job.

It is the small things that cost the most like door rubbers, clips, nuts bolts etc, My advise is buy a good one and drive it and have fun.

Thats right. I just had the major service done on mine and it was a lot of money spent. Well it was cheap(........cheaper then normal) only because I had nothing wrong with the car, It was a forced service but still costed an arm and a leg, Im glad I had no problems.

Im in the middle of making a carbon top for my 348 and each latch if I was to buy a Ferrari OEM is $850 each! The rubbers(seals) on each sides are $510 each! The 2.5cmX60cm of plastic to run the water off the roof is $210 each! There are more parts for just the top! Its not cheap those little parts at all!

Did I mention it was cheap?

Ok, I figure belts, hoses, filters, plugs, water pump, thermostat, cam cover gaskets, clutch, tires, windscreen. The MAF sensors may need a cleaning (it runs a bit off). The brakes and alternaltor were done 4 months ago. Some paintwork, interior panels, but that can wait. I suspect suspension bushings, maybe a shock or two. The bumper needs some TLC too.

Basically, I want to pull the engine and work on it for a month or two, then slot it back in and work on the chassis.

I have looked around but have yet to see what is involved in pulling the motor. A 348 Manual is on order, but it there an internet resource showing how the engine comes out with a few jacks and a trolley?

As we get into this I may just start a thread.

    Thanks for the advice.

This thread is from a fellow fchatter tmobileguy that blew his engine up due to cambelt failure. Im not 100% sure how many pics of the engine removal procedure are shown, but it is mentioned I think. :)
