I've done a search and wasn't able to find anything so if it is a repost I appologize. Click here go down the page half way and click on "Buying Michael Schumacher's F1 car." Fun look at part of the Ferrari Factory.
Yeah it's a repost but was under a totally different title, something like "English man buys F1 car" or so. Can't remember exactly. Still a pretty interesting video so no problem I guess.
There's a picture of the car he bought parallel parked on the side of the road in England among regular cars. It's a cool shot.
Who is this Frank Mountain? I can't find a Bio, or anything about him on the net. Anyone konw what other car's he owns, or how much he's worth, or what he's done??
He was on Top Gear this past year driving his Maserati MC12 in the snow- and running it into a snow bank and doing some minor damage..
He is in the construction business. He also has an Enzo and a MC12 that' I'm aware of besides the Ferrari F1 car.
GREAT video. Though I dont know much about F1, I am a big fan and loved that video. Only had time to watch it once so far and have a couple of questions. First was the clutch lever on the back of the steering wheel for adjusting of the clutch or use of the clutch(I always thought it was semi-automatic)? Second anyone know any specs on the one-off Enzo GT type prototype?
As far as I know, the clutch lever is used just to get the car going from a stand still. After that, you just use the paddle shifters.
Nice bloke, he spent a year with us at the Silverstone Race Academy racing in Formula Ford's - all in preparation for collecting his new toy and playing with it (but he didnt tell us at the time)
Download this: http://www.finalgear.com/downloads/fifthgear/5/6/ You need a p2p client to download this though...
oops... just saw, that they havn't torrented it yet... did you download it? Well now, at least, you know the episide and date... :S
It's a hand operated clutch. Meaning the hand leaver operates the clutch as would a foot pedal. But, It's a "fly by wire" system. It's connected to the hydraulic clutch by electronics. Same general system as used in the "fly by wire" throttle systems. FWIW these types of systems were actually first seen on Shifter Karts in the late 80s early 90s (first use in four wheel motorsport). But they were (and still are) controlled mechanically by a wire. The current "crash" boxes seen in CART and F1 (in the 90s) also came about after Karting had them in full use. Of course these gear boxes were originally in use on Motorcycles and that let to the use in Karts.
Just a minor correction, it was on 5th Gear (fifth gear) not Top Gear. Great video. The torrent can be found at the following location: http://www.mininova.org/tor/31125 Frank Mountain seems like a great guy. The guy was driving his new MC12 in the snow, slush and ice. I love it.
