I had a friend that was a "district dealer" for Rolex...
been along time since I talked to him.. but ill try and get ahold of him if you want .. just PM me. No promises though.. i mean its been awhile since we talked...

Funny you mentioned the rolexes. I was actually looking at them about a year ago.. but ended up.. the only one i really liked was the cheapest one ! with the black leather band.. "classic look" forgot the name of it.. anyway. figured it was too much to pay for a watch.. lol

I have a buddy that's a main distributor for Rolex (I believe he's supplies Shreeve & Co. with their Rolex watches) in San Francisco. Let me know if you want his info. I actually bought mine from him. :)

Why not just come to New York and buy a couple for $10 each off of a street vendor? Much cheaper and, I understand, they keep time just about as well as the real thing.

If you insist on the real thing, there are probably some deals to be had in NYC with the legitimate dealers. The potential savings would probably more than pay for a nice shopping trip to NYC for you and your wife.

For that kind of coin, though, I think that there are a lot of other choices that are more distinctive and interesting than yet another Rolex.

For those with Rolex distributor connections and such......

I would very much like to purchase an all stainless steel, white faced 116520 Daytona. New. I will even pay a bit over retail.

Any chance of helping me out ? ;)

I second Ashman's opinion. If you're going to spend $30K on a watch, buy something more unique than a Rolex. That's like deciding to buy a luxury car and coming back with a Lexus. Not a bad choice in itself, but there are better ones out there.

And hey, who better to take this sort of advice from than a college student whose idea of an expensive watch is a $200 Swiss Army? :D

I've got a 1990 model SS Rolex datejust, a clean, elegant, superbly made watch, as accurate for practical purposes as anything quartz, but if I was going to spend 20 grand on a new watch I would be branching out.

I've also got a Timex all-SS quartz chronometer that I bought at Target five years ago for $50 and for day to day use has been about the best watch I've ever had. Good looking too, you could mistake it for something expensive.

That's a cool watch. Any ideas on price or where to purchase?

For that money, I would also consider Patek Philippe or Vacheron Constantin. That said, I'm getting a Rolex Oyster Perpetual when I graduate, but only a 'cheap' one!

I have found that if you have a real one, everyone asks if it's fake and if you have a fake one, everyone asks if it's real. Go figure.

If you're gonna spend the cash, you might as well shop around.

OC & Rolex are practically synonyms.. If you're looking to make an impression it might not be the right one.

And there's no right answer either! If its fake, you look like a poser, if its real, you look like a, well, you know.

Get outta here! I passed a used one up for 7500 a couple of years ago. One more regret! Now I'm looking at 9 grand. That'll buy a lot of things for the 308.

I bought a GMT Master II and wore it for 2 years before I finally sold it. Absolutely, positively the worst time-keeping piece I have EVER owned. I bought the F1 Tag Heuer for a few hundred $ and never looked back. See sample photo below.

My wife's experience has been similar to mine. I bought her a Rolex a number of years ago, and she's been asking me "what time is it?" ever since.

Spend your $30K on something else.

By a fake (if you really want the look) for $100. With any luck, it might even keep time.

Rolex is the worse time piece I have ever owned. I've had it about 4 years now, paid $3800.00 ( Yachtmaster). my other watch is a Seiko Aviator, I've had it about 10 years now. it has never skipped a beat. it cost my wife back then about $340.00 still looks as good as new.

Buy what you want, the rest is all a fad. Rolex will never die, or be worth less than what you pay... unless you buy something crazy.

Have you checked it out, sounds too cheep.

I have owned many rolex watches for the last 7 -8 years, never a single problem. I wear my SUB everyday, never an issue.

Yachtmaster list is about $6800 right now, so sell it and make some money on it.

Have you looked at the entire line of Rolex watches? Daytonas are very popular, and the only choice in the multi - dial look. I bought the Yachmaster in 18k so that I could have something a little different than the more popular Submariner / president line. I also prefer the oyster band. Don't let others on this board spend your money. If you have your heart set on a Rolex, Go for it!

It was a partial trade. the only reason why I haven't sold it is because of it's value and some sentimental reasons.besides, I have a bad habbit of not getting rid of things I don't use.
