Just wanted to get your opinion...

I have a 2017 488 GTB. About 4 weeks, I had an antigravity lithium battery and Novitec cat delete and x-pipe installed at the same time. About 1 week ago, the car started to make a buzzing noise (almost "electrical" sounding) only between 3000 and 3100 RPM only. The sound occurs no matter on or off the throttle as the tachometer needle passes between 3000 to 3100 RPM, going up or down. Once outside this range, there is no buzzing sound. Now, if I hold the throttle in that zone, the noise will be constant and it sounds like its coming from behind the driver's seat. It's not loud, but loud enough for the passenger to notice it, if I point it out. The car drives great with no issues, exhaust sounds great, and battery voltage reading is within normal limits.

Could this be an issue due to the battery? Loose part vibrating part? Any ideas? Just trying to troubleshoot before taking it to the shop.

    Thanks

My guess would be exhaust rattle. After heat cycling a few times the metals can expand/contract and cause the hardware to loosen a little bit.

The installation manual for S-Line exhausts says to install it, start the car and bring it up to temperature, then go back in and retighten EVERYTHING.

My guess is nothing was retightened after install of your exhaust and something is definitely loose.

I also installed a Novitec x-pipe on my F8 and noticed a sort of buzz as well (for me its just below 3k). To me it sounded more like it might have been coming from valves in the intake/exhaust system? That's about when the boost is allowed to build and it seems to be accompanied by hissing/induction type sounds.

I didnt think much of it, but this makes me want to investigate more now. I am going to have the fender liners off in the coming weeks to lower the car and tune the ecu so I will try getting a wrench on as many of the mounting brackets as I can and see if that does anything. I had a 430 which had the typical exhaust rattle, but that sound came more from the outside of the car with windows down vs this sound comes more through the firewall and is a lot more subdued. -- the 430 sounded like someone was shaking a can of washers or something.

Do you know if the sound stared a week ago, or was it going on longer and maybe thats when you just noticed? For me I had always listened to music in the car until I swapped my exhaust (nothing else to listen to otherwise), so its hard for me to say if it was the Novitec exhaust itself or if it was always there. I dont hear it with music on.

It started about 4 weeks after install. Most of the time I don't listen to music in the car because I like to listen to the exhaust note, even when stock. So, I'm pretty aware of all the weird squeeks, rattles, hisses, etc. Some come and go depending on the temperature or weather, but this buzzing noise is still there. I contacted my shop and they said to bring the car in and they will tighten anything that is loose. Let me know what you find!

I had a similar experience on my Cali T with Capristo exhaust. I thought it was the heat shields at first. Eventually I found it to be under one of the rear seats. It took for ever to find.

After market exhausts resonate at different frequencies and so over time things rattle loose. The pitta is finding it.

My rattle was also between 3-3.1k revs. Seems that was the peak of the resonance on that exhaust
