Continuing the saga of my bypass issues...

I am starting a new thread, as I was able to successfully remove, unweld and reinstall my working bypass valve (THANKS to everyone who helped!!) from the previous thread...

Now I have a working valve... but it doesn't 'work'... The car is alot quieter than before at startup, idle and the entire RPM range band... infact, once it gets towards 6K rpm, it sounds like the engine is about to die... When the bypass was welded open, the car was alot louder throughout, and the higher RPMs had a beautiful scream to it...

Im fairly sure the valve is not opening... I tried a vacuum test and the valve works, so Im guessing the problem is somewhere in the actual vacuum generation/solenoid/etc...

Can someone help me out - where to start looking? and for what?

Also, would someone be able to test the vacuum via a guage and let me know what 'normal' numbers are at 1K, 2K, 4K, 6K RPM (Im guessing the vacuum still works when in N, and we should be able to get a reading as to vacuum pressure even with a speed of 0)...

Once again, thanks to everyone!! This group rocks...

The manual shows at what RPM the bypass valve should actuate. I do not recall exactly off hand, but I believe it opens at the same RPM in all except one gear, maybe third?? Anyway, it sounds like your solenoid is not 'actuating'.

You can follow the vacuum line from your bypass valve to find the correct actuator. Disconnect the power connector to it and try putting 12v through it. Use a 12v battery charger or even a new 9v battery. Put the power to the solenoid intermittently and listen for the clicking sound of the solenoid. If it does not click, then try pulling the upper vaccum line off it and squirt some marvel mystery oil into the solenoid through hose nipple. Try the intermittent power again and see if it loosens up.

Note: It may be much easier to remove the solenoid from its mounting plate and do this entire excerise on a workbench.
