What is the proper vacuum psi required to acute the bypass valve? I found another thread that indicated 24 psi but it was not definitive. Thanks! Eddie
During some data collection for other purposes ........ I will be taking these actual numbers in the near future ............ but off hand I believe the vacuum provided by the vacuum reservoire/intake manifold is 330mbar or 20" Hg ..... approximately ........... though I do not know how much of that, is actually required for the bypass actuator to do its job ......
Right or wrong, mine is at 24". I hooked a gauge to it and ran the tube into the cockpit to measure everything under load. It operates the valve as it should at that level.
My 20" was off fuzzy memory recollection ...... so a different number would not be surprising ...... ......... my recalled number was taken 'after' the auxillary air injection solenoid switch ........ which I believe has a small bleedoff in order to allow the vacuum actuated valve to 'go back' after vacuum has been switched off ....... I cannot say for certain (yet) if the reservoire vacuum source has to 'fight' that bleedoff during actuation (thus getting a lower number) or if the solenoid creates a hermetic path ....... but as I mentioned before ..... I will be taking vacuum numbers again .......... the effort purpose, is to collect and characterize actual vacuum numbers at various load and throttle postitions .......... information which is needed for future component development ...... Tentatively, I will be testing the following vacuum sources; 1. Manifold vacuum 2. Reservoire vacuum 3. post auxillary air injection solenoid switch vacuum 4. post by-pass valve solenoid switch vacuum *note ..... since my original bypass actuator has been replaced with a custom version ..... I will not be able to test at what vacuum level the OEM version actuates ......... at least during this driving test ......... but I do have some extra actuators I can test on the bench.
Sorry for the slow response .......... Here are the bypass valve actuation numbers as asked by TxEddie. Bypass cracks @ 8 cmHg or 106.66 mbar Bypass is full open @ 18 cmHg or 239.98 mbar .........
Thanks! I originally wanted to know because I added the spring mod to stop the buzz and wanted to make sure I didn't inhibit the valve from opening with the additional friction. The valve still opened but also still had a small buzz when warmed up. New bypass installed=NO buzz. ...talking about follow-through on your part! What a pro.
Where did you get the new valve from, Ferrari part or not? I want to replace that rattling piece of junk on mine.
...eBay; OEM $700 NEW!! Wow, does it make the sweetest sound difference...well, that and the Capristo 3...
