Saw this on ebay and it has a familiar history and look to Byron's 348. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6212&item=2484062342&rd=1
Sure looks like it to me. Besides, I dont know how many other red 348 challenges were dropped from a tow truck in California Man I miss the sound of that car! Just amazing!
Byron, Please give us a update!!!! and call me on my cell when you have time I want a new track car....
Man, I believe it is Byrons car! I miss that sound also, it was so beautiful, I heard him comming down the road and it took nearly 20 seconds before I could actually see him! It was sweet . Somebody should by it back, and return it back to SoCal, so we can hear it once more.
Yes, this is my old car. Here are some details about the mechanicals: - The new a/c was installed by the owner before me when it was converted back to street - I put in a fresh battery and replaced the old starter with a Nippondenso unit - I had the alternator/ac belts replaced at FX performance when the a/c belt snapped on me - I had to change the bracket, too (ordered from GT Autoparts) - I put in the MB Quart Speakers and full alpine system (some of you may recall my custom box!), but removed the head unit when I sold the car - it's now in my M3!! - Carl and I took apart the tranny when it failed on me on the 405... spent about $2500 in parts - boy was that fun! - I had the 30k done at FX; while the engine was out, rebuilt my water pump unit, replaced the water pump, replaced much of the oil pump/chain assembly, but didn't change out the O2 sensors - Just 200 miles before destruction, I put on brand new brembo rotors all around and new cobalt friction race pads... amazing stopping power!! - It had some issues with the throttle cable getting stuck while I was on the track, but it's not a big deal - just lubing some springs would do the trick - The car shifted well, but notchy when cold - don't know if that has been resolved - When I had it, it had a racing clutch and lightened flywheel - it grabbed like there was no tomorrow! (don't know if that was replaced or not) Mike if you are interested in the car, we can talk in more detail and I will tell you about my ownership of the vehicle. The car was an absolute blast to drive, though. I'm not sure how well they did the frame pull (as the pictures don't show it) or how well the suspension was repaired, but cosmetically, it looks great. The current owner did a great job in making it look like how it should! No damage in the last 10 years is false. The last owner before me killed a deer during a 348 challenge practice lap... it dented the hood and shattered the windshield - both were replaced w/o additional damage to the car. The car was nicknamed the "Deerslayer" the rest of the season! I don't want to comment publicly about the title or vouch for the integrity of the repairs... all i know is that it looks great and I miss it!! Byron

Because it has a "history". BTW I own the car now. It will be back for sale although I am more inclined of keeping this one for myself. Just always loved this car and was pretty bummed out when I sold it immediately to Byron in 2002. So unless someone pays what the car is worth....it will be my driver.
hehe... isn't it funny how round the world is? haha... Martin, maybe I'll buy it back from you again one day - boy, did I love that beast of a 348!!... I know you told me the minute I sold it that you had 1st right to buy it back... (shhh, don't tell Zinzell... hehe) It's funny how that actually came true! Well, it would be strange if I flew out to FL and went out to Moroso with you in my former car! LOL... Well, now you can actually drive the thing on Homestead (you remember when I didn't let you before?!!!)... Maybe someone else will make a home for this car again in CA - I'm just glad that it's on the road again... and with a clean bill of health, too. B.
