To cut a long story short, my 4 and a bit yr old wants 1/18 scale 101st airborne paratroopers parachuting down from his ceiling. So I have ended up finding a 1/18th DC-3 model to repaint as a C-47 that they are jumping from (since he feels they have to come from somewhere). Yes scale is ridiculously large (60' wingspan) but I think I can squeeze it up high, in the corner, sort of. Can't find any scale side and top elevation drawings of the D-Day markings, just photo's from various angles.

Any model hobby people on here that might have a link to aircraft paint schemes for the C-47?

Well this is painted in "invasion colors" which is what they used on D-day. ON a side not my grandfather flew C-47's in the pacific during WWII.

Accurate U.S. wartime colors are sold by Tamiya in their water based model paints. Their olive drab and neutral grey are perfect. I have a drawing on a wartime C-47 with invasion stripes but I'll have to find it. I am a modeler and an artist and I was in the air force during the war. I choke when I see the shiny finish and mouse grey undersides on " restorations". Most are totally wrong. WW2 grey was a 50% grey, fairly dark. The grey used on the current airfoce airplanes is very light, almost white, and absolutely incorrect for WW2 stuff.

Thanks Switches, I'm down the model shop in Anchorage tomorrow so I'll get hold of the correct colors and maybe a set of decals too. And I need to put on a set of made-up 3 bladed props as the two bladed it came with look weird.
