    One should also read Consumer Reports Tire tests. One thing Consumer's noted was that after mechanically shaving 1/2 the tread off a tire (simulating normal wear after a couple years) & retesting, the tire characteristics changed dramatically: and frequently for the better as there was no more "Tread flex".

    Make sure you read the article carefully and understand their scale for rating them, the Continental finished second, but nobody though it felt particularly sporty, it just averaged out well in their ratings.

    The Eagle at #1 doesn't surprise me at all. Handling in the dry is very good and in the wet it is outstanding. If the rubber on my Mondi wasn't almost new I'd get GS-D3s in a heartbeat. But then I'd probably want those really nice looking 17" Speedline rims, too, and losing the .5" of protective sidewall worries me in NYC...
