could anyone here help me out with this question. what is the top speed for a c5 vette(the one that just stopped being built)? im talking about a stock one with no mods. my friend(who's dad owns one) says its 200 because the speedometer goes that high. i told him that the speedo reading that doesnt mean anything. then he began about some restricter plate or something. so could someone give me a site that confirms the top speed is UNDER 200mph on a c5 vette? thanks

Yup, about 175 down a really steep hill if you get pushed from behind by a pack of Enzos.

Had a guy tell me the other day he had his up to 212mph and had a Diablo that would run 226 and a 72 vette that woudl run 192. You will never be able to convince these guys or impress them. They are the same guys that ask me how fast my bike will go and when I reply in the high 150's to low 160's the scoff and say they had an 81 kz1000 that would run 180!! They are totally clueless and have never been anywhere near the limit of anything they own. Top speed on a stock LS1 I believe to be 172mph. Everyone is impressed when they look at my 190 mph speedo in my car. I can't wait to get a 250mph speedo!!!

Let him have his fun............ tell him sure, it'll do 200.

I've got to tell you, any car I've driven over 150 has gotten real light in the front (Also in vette). I'd be very careful.

The first one MT tested did 169mph. The 2nd one did 173 or 174 I can't remember off hand. Zo6's were a little less at about 170 topped out. There's a vid floating around of a guy topping his out in texas. I can't remember off hand but I know the new one is in the 178-185 range.

Tell him they go 210 then when he only gets up to 172 he can go into the dealer screaming that his Corvette will not make the GM spec 210 MPH for his car

I've personally seen 172mph in one, and I'm pretty sure it was about maxxed. It would need another 125hp or so to hit 200mph, I'm sure.

As for the speedo reading 200mph, your friend is right, but you have to keep in mind that that speedo doubles as mph/kph, and 200k/h isn't terribly fast.

    Hope this helps.

Problem with the pushrod engine is that it is really weak higher in the RPM range, and it shows by its weak top speed.

Incorrect. The weak top speed is due to massively tall gearing. Why is the C6 so good?

The top speed is 186 mph. The car has a lower drag coefficient and smaller cross sectiontional area than any of your ferraris, so the tailwind statment probably wouldn't apply.

Better yet, the C6's i've encountered at the track have usually been faster than the modern ferrari's ive seen, although its probably driver skill.

The C5, is slightly behind in the low 170's. not bad for 40k really
