well. that's the problem F owners only get gas on rodeo drive [just kidding] it's hard to ignore the big hair, fake tit, gold chain, hairpiece image of the corvette, but if we do: i drove them for 3 days at bragg-smith class the spring mtn track in pahrump, nv. very good alll around car, wretched interior, much worse than a porsche which is poor. seats abominable, hurt my back, no support typical USA dog meat. handling and brakes very nice and good torque. easily lapped same time aS MY gt3 on that technical, slow track. i'm interested in the new performance version... but still hate the looks and trailer park image..
Seriously, if I ever met someone who would sell a Ferrari for a Vette I would be inclined to slap that dumbasss....
A Corvette is not a Ferrari, but give credit where it is due. For the money, you can't get anything better. I agree with tfazio here, maybe the vette isn't your ultimate performance or exotic weekend car, but for the price it's a great deal as a daily driven performance car (it does get great gas milage too), or a track car that you can throw money into for mods. The current Z06 is a damn good track car, and even the GT3 Porsche guys have leveled with the fact that a Z06 makes a better track car because of it's close or even better times and half the cost. Like I said, it's no exotic but you're getting a lot in a cheap package.
There is no denying that the Vette is the best bang for your buck. But regardless of that, it doesn't have anything on the 360. Performance wise as of now, looks, it has a rich history just not as rich as Ferrari. IMO To trade a Ferrari 360 for a Vette is like trading a Gorgeous Victorias Secret model for a goodlooking legal whore at the Bunny Ranch. Like I said tho, thats my opinion. She may be goodlooking and it may be legal, but she's still a whore.
And I will repeat what I said. Buyers of 360's or any exotic are not interested in gettind alot in a cheap package. I have my original 427 tri-power roadster I bought new in 68, as well as other collector vettes, but I am just tired of the "bang for the buck" argument of Vette guys. JMHO
I agree with you 100%. That's why I just bought a 1979 Camaro Z28, the first car I've ever owned. A new Toyota 4 door will probably leave me in the dust...
From the Viperclub forums http://vca2.viperclub.org/forums/sh...sb=5&o=&fpart=1 C6 is tested on the Top Gear BBC program this weekend. The posted track times were: 1. Mercedes McLaren SLR - 1.20.9 2. Corvette C6 - 1.26 11. Lotus Exige - 1.26.4 12. Porsche 911 GT3 - 1.27.2 Some of the videos from the prior tests are posted at: Some of the recent Top Gear Videos are posted at the bottom of : http://www.sleepy-fish.com/other_veh.htm They are pretty good.
C6s are nice, however, I'm sure there are a lot of modded (or maybe stock in the near future) Suburu WRXs, previous and next Supras that can do 11 & 12s at 1/4mile and pull more G than C6 Vette, 360 or the upcoming 430. I would still prefer to drive the F-Car. Maybe here is where my "KWON" for Ferrari kicks-in again! Ok... I'm shallow..
The owner of a 360 never did buy a 360 because the 360s performance could be had from other top end sport car, for example a 996TT would make a better choice from this stand point alone. It is obvious that the 360 owner did buy a Ferrari because he wanted a Ferrari. I believe that if they needed or wanted more performance they would just buy the next Ferrari coming out just like I am doing. A corvette isn't a car to think about when you can own a Ferrari specially one way beyond $100,000, an owner of a 360 or other expensive cars might buy a corvette as just another car to have or to use daily but never as "the car". The good thing about corvettes is that they are cheap in every way and because of that they are good to trash around and race them or track them specially when this cars do not make the owner feel any special feelings or attachments for one. Is it a great performer for the money? Of course it is but just because of the lesser quality and prestige of it I would much rather buy a Porsche 993S or a Testarossa, even a "slow" 308 Quattrovalvole would make me a happier man.
Ok, ok, I can respect that. I understand what you're saying, but bang for your buck sports cars definitely have their place in the car world.. obviously. Not all of is can afford f-cars (yet), so it's nice to have cars like this which offer big performance for smaller price tags. Anyways, it's all a matter or taste and wallet size really.
ferrari's were never designed to sell as performance machines. Otherwise lamborghini would outsell then 3:1. Ferrari's were designed to be fun, look good, and most importantly sound good doing it.
a realy big part about a car for me are the lines and asteticly the whole design of the 360 is remarkable from the bumper tobumper incredible. I have owned a zo6 and althogh it is faster in a straight and has crazy amount of torque i still does not and will never hold a candle to my 360 if you had 150 to spend on a car i dont think you would be takeing the c6 now if your talking about having the 60 grand to spend then ofcourse you would get the c6 being that is all you could afford at the time and then come on the ferrari forums and shout to everybody that your car can beat a 360 the bottom line is who cares deep down you know as well as i know if both cars were presented to you for no cost which one would you take?
Seriously, don't be ignorant. There are plenty of people that love corvettes and have a huge affection and love for them. And for whatever reason the car makes them feel good. Don't knock that. One thing I do not get is a lot of people are not all around car lovers/enthusiasts.
some people do love their vettes a great deal...after i bought my c5, i got agreat deal of grief from non carloving friends for buying a red neck car...woman hated it... a lot of negative bias on a very good car.... if it was a bmw or a porsche, people would have love it!!!..i respect all sport car lover and even luxury car lovers....but suv lovers ... that a different story... you can buy one for off roading or working on your farm, but dont act like you have a performance car!!!
You might have your opnion and valid points and I have mine, just don't call me an ignorant for I am more right than wrong.
I certainly felt that way after a couple years owning the 996 TT. I thought the Elise to be the perfect answer...driving fun at 50 MPH! I have left my order intact at the Lotus dealer (Sports and Specialist Cars in Princeton, NJ, a jerk for various reasons)...but since then I have a 355. Like the 996 TT too fast for 99% of road conditions, but more enjoyable all the way around by a long shot.
I drove a buddy's '04 Vette. I didn't think the ride all too harsh, but what the car is great at, gobs of low end torque, is not what excites me about a car. The Vette is an evolution of the American muscle car, a very good one, but these cars have been first and foremost about straightaway acceleration and the 1/4 mile. I know that the Vette also handles well, but that long hood and all that mass up front doesn't want to make me explore it. I've got an appreciation for cars like this but never really wanted to own one. People can bench race all day and talk about lap times and numbers but that doesn't do a thing for the most important driving experience...mine! RD
The only shortfall the new C6 Corvette has is the Magnastar steering. The rest is a very nice automobile. Dave Hill looked at each of the the 100 or so "Dissatisfactions" with the C5 and fixed everyone of them in the new C6. Think of the C6 as an evolutionary C5! ch
Your statements are ignorant. There not factual and hardly opinions. Reread what you previously wrote. What I'm saying is some of your statements can be somewhat insulting to a corvette lover. Perhaps a better way to say it would be better after rereading your statements.
