When I first talked to Mike Furman (the guy who has sold 5000 corvettes himself) about the convertible, I asked him what he thought the percentage of convertibles would be vs coupes. He said 15% tops. That's what traditionally vert to coupe sales have been like for years and this was the most expensive option (about 10% of the car's basic MSRP). I told him its more -- a lot more -- with this one. The reasons I gave is targa's are a PITA for the payoff and time it takes to do, and that people like a hardtop over a soft top because its more secure, doesn't wear out, and looks better. Plus, we are all about instant gratification today. We want to just press a button. The C7 was the first to offer a power soft top. Ferrari had been doing it since 2001. And, I've been pretty much right. Its not going to be 50% like Ferrari because all Ferrari coupes have fixed roofs where all Corvette coupes are Targa's. But Chevy did a great job in the design of this thing top up or down. IMO, its one of the few cars that actually looks better in convertible form than the coupe. And at 7 grand, its a bargain in the mid engine world.
If I were them, I would have gone with one more in your face younger colors -- perhaps Lambo green or even Purple. The new brown is for Merc owners, the new gray for Porsche owners, and the new orange is more sophisticated than the old orange. I'm sure they know what they are doing. Heaven knows they have enough money to spend on research. But I'm not sure adding these new colors expands the market.
Do you mean the wall of switches? I absolutely love using it. Its right there at your hand to make an adjustment like a shifter used to be.
Its not the most attractive but its really useful. I look at the SF 90 which has everything on a touch screen and it looks really tedious with no feedback. Modern? Yes. Functional -- sometimes old school buttons are just better.
Well I took the plunge. I picked up a 2020 C8 two days ago. I placed a deposit in January at a local dealer here in Indiana. However it was a fairly apparent I probably wasn’t going to get a car from at least another 18 months. I decided to just pay the premium and find somebody willing to sell me their‘s. I found a gentleman who was a retired GM engineer who bought the car and took delivery in October. It’s a Z51 1LT and had 300 miles. I’ve had three Ferraris including my current 348 that I’ve had for over 15 years now. The most current Ferrari I’ve driven is a 458 so that’s all I really have in Ferrari to compare to this Corvette. This car is amazing I can’t believe what GM created. It really is incredible, one thing I will tell you it’s a very large car compared to my 348. I know cars have gotten bigger over the years and the 348 is now 30 years old, but boy it’s much larger. I’ve posed a few pictures for comparison. It is big but the C8 about the same size as a 458. I have the same issue with all sports cars today. What is impressive in the C8 is the amount of cargo area for a mid engine car with a pretty huge engine in the back. The forward trunk is smaller than a 458 though because they put the battery up there. I don't think Ferrari intended the 348 to be much of a daily driver. The C8 was designed specifically for that purpose.
C8 looks soooo much better without those ugly black boomerangs pasted onto the sides! That was money well spent!
C8 is strong. Had a motor blow in front of me just before the finish (so I backed off the finish), still finished #25/72 in an SCCA time trial style event. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
