I cannot wait. This car sounds awesome and 675 HP to boot. If you think interest in this car is high now, wait until some hit the streets. A similar thing happened with the Stingray. Interest went up when people finally saw them.

Nobody knows the price yet by my guess for a 3LT convertible with a few options is about $120-125K. If you fulled decked one out it could be 150-160.

The nearest car that interests me is the Maserati MC20 but that's starts about $230K and isn't sold as a convertible yet.

It's unreal how similar they sound. The argument for the 458 just for the sound is sort of out the window now. Can't wait to read some back to back driving impressions from someone one here who has had both once the Z06 starts getting delivered.

My concern is that the Z06 won't be very loud inside the car, while the 458 is one of the loudest stock cars I've heard while inside the car (assuming the exhaust baffles are open). Most reviews said the C8 sound didn't translate to the cabin very well, which is a bit of a disappointment. Fairly easily fixed with an aftermarket exhaust though.

So this is what I have heard about that.

Chevy did see this problem of the sound in the cockpit so they put in some kind of acoustic baffles that makes the exhaust resonate off the pavement so it travels backwards into the cabin. They did not use any electronic enhancement. Its all mechanical.

GM bought more than one 458 to reverse engineer. And they have had years to study its design. In addition to the flat plane crank, Chevy's "communicator valves" are directly stolen from the 458's valves that manage the frequencies between both banks' intakes, stuffing more air into the intake valves. Also known as resonance supercharging.

I know of one other 458 chev/gm sold. the car had clearly been taken apart and then put back together.

I think it's a bit of an overstatement to say GM "reverse engineered the 458" to make the C8. The chassis for one is totally different between the 2 cars. No doubt there are ideas taken from the 458 (very little new under the sun), but "reverse engineer" implies that the C8 is a copy of the 458, which it is most assuredly not.

The original car GM bought was a 458. At some point, they sold it and bought a 488. They (GM) did not keep the 488 near as long as they had the original 458. They sold the 488 and bought another 458.

and we’re all the better for the. Having benchmarked the 458.
After the lazy supercharged option in the c7 zo6 they finally got the chance to step it up.

Yes the car came out heavy, but in many other ways The engineers were allowed to go for it.
The result is a commercial hit with the regular Vette a cool gt satisfying 70% of buyers. This tells me that marketing and coporate also knew what they were doing. Bravo to the engineers who were able to straddle that line.

It’s the Swansong of ice it’s like all the best engineers gm had worked together and created on one last project. Ferrari is all
Turbo, lanbo is Going fhybrid. There’s the Vette and the gt3, in that performance class that’s what’s left and the Vette is one of the all time greats anyway.

the e Rey and zr1 will knock it out the park capturing more segments and creating some new ones.

It truly is the democratized super car.

When you take something apart to see how it works, what would you call it? I never mentioned the chassis. My example was the communicator valves. It looks like we read the same C&D article.

I never implied that the C8 was "a copy" at all. Both are cool cars.

They couldn’t have picked a better platform to copy. I actually think the Z06 sounds louder and higher pitched (better) than the 458 in these videos. It is the greatest engine ever dropped into an American car. So exciting.

As I said before, if Ferrari developed this engine for one of their cars, everyone on Fchat would be screaming "Hallelujah!"

The 458 had the best engine of any car I have owned. This I feel will be better because of its size.

And also NOT invented by Ferrari (the flat plane crank, the intake plenum valves) that are "directly stolen from the 458".
