I don't want to get any further off topic except to say my C5Z with minimum track mods wiped the floor of every 911 I came up against when I was tracking at PIR and the Ridge. There is a reason the C5Z was regulated out of SCCA T1 series too. Back on topic, the C8Z looks very impressive so far.

You spec'd a GT4RS for $151K? Well, you sure didn't have to spend a lot of time on that since your "spec" is a ZERO OPTION car. The MSRP is $149,100 PLUS $1,450 destination/handling PLUS $1,300 gas guzzler tax for a bouncy total of $151,850
Good luck finding a GT4RS spec'd like that anywhere in the free world. ;)

so realistically we’re looking at a 25-30k discount. And it’s much easier to get a corvette than any RS model Porsche. By a mile

i love the C5Z. Criminally underrated car. I was lucky to be around a few by people I know as well as 360s and 430s..,,Those cars new stock the stock showed taillights to the 360CS and 430 on track.

Every car tested with z07 by a magazine was 160K +
base is 108, z07 comes with mandatory aero so thats +20K for both.
Add in the non rent a car interior and yes its wound 150K.

You mean I didnt order a bunch of fake Cf.
Car has the race buckets, not much else needed. To get the good stuff for track in a z06 you gotta add a lot of options.
Its all a function of what one wants. I prefer no frippery.
Porse "says" the Gt4Rs is not a limited production car, nor in theory is the z06. Even ferrari 296s can be ordered at list if you dont mind waiting. 6 months from now or a year from now maybe one can order a rs and wait. I don't know but tis a possibility.
Porche with its IPO needs to show profit, that means more Gt spec cars which is where a lot of margin is. teh z06 is a natural competitor, who wants to make the sale.
The ERA of retired Boomers with fistfuls of retirement cash just buying everything cause they gotta have it now is fast drawing toa close. Next year will be a different landscape. As others have said, for road the z06 may well be a more appealing proposition.

Got a deposit down on a z06, if I can place on on the pcar can always decide later.
Agree right now a deposit for msrp on the porche is impossible. 12 months from now maybe different.

its interesting because z07 is different shock calibration slightly stiffer springs (both of which are zero extra cost to Gm) and then ceramic brakes which of you track you dot. Want and the carbon aero package.

so if you could get z07 shocks and springs with steel brakes and the aero package that implies the ceramics are 10k.

such a setup and a few others would yield a better vette on Track for significantly less $ to buy and less to run.

Gm is forcing pointless options to get the more trackable Vette

The 4rs comes with the proper track buckets the aero and suspension out the box, those are not extra order items. You. An choose ceramics but why would you for track. The only options on the 4rs are really cosmetic cf door sills leather dash and Alcantera sunvisors etc.

I’d say the cayman s is like the z06 and the 4rs is like the z07. Like for like they’re dam close in price.

for 25-35 less the Vette would be a bargain, but it’s not less. Just two different cars maybe with different focus. I imagine if one tried both the choice would be clear.

the 4rs is also the last iteration of those platform, whereas the Vette is just getting going, who knows how much more Vette will be available ina z05 5 years from now, no trunk, s duct etc.

course the 4rs is unobtainable and o at dealers aholes whereas the Vette may be delivered soem day. We’ll see in a Year or two how it shakes out.

No you would not. I suspect you don’t track very much. If you can drive, I mean really drive, and you do a lot of events, you will burn through those carbon ceramic rotors in a year. Replacement costs will likely be north of $6K per corner. Not sure you would enjoy a $25K brake bill every year.

Unless you are sponsored or have north of 8 figures in the bank, you want steel discs for track duty.

It drives me crazy when people spec CCB’s because they are going to track their car.

Gimme a break...the base interior on a C8 is very nice...this is not 2012. You lose credibility when you drag out old yarns like this.

    2 things.
If you "do a lot of events" I doubt CC rotors are going to last a year.
And this is a Corvette...by Chevrolet...replacement CC rotors are nowhere close to $6k per corner, more like $1,300 per corner (assuming they are priced like C7 ZR1 CC rotors are priced)

And the upgrade to 3LZ isn't that expensive given what you're getting. What's surprising to me is how well it wears.

Why, they're expensive, don't last well and are 10k to replace, iron rotors wok as well and are like 1/10th to replace, thats why you never see someone trackign with cermaics, even the porche guys remove them and go iron.

    This ^^^. Thank you Sean!

No offense but some of the guys here have no clue when it comes to tracking.

  22. Many Porsche GT owners track their cars with the PCCBs (yours truly included).

The Gen IV PCCBs on the 991 GT3/RS cars are nothing like the Gen III PCCBs on the 997 cars, which every bases their "don't track with PCCBs" comments on.

Yes, they're more expensive to replace but the difference in lifespan with the Gen IV is much much better than the Gen III.

I remember you going nuts when I critiqued the C7 interior.
The thing is C8 interior quality may be ok now, but there are acres of interior, vast expanses of dash and door in that car and a vette is not a minimalist car by inspiration, thats not its vibe. The stock interior (given the expanse and design) makes it feel low rent. Ive seen both side by side Thats maybe not a quality argument on a C8 more of an aesthetic one. Some cars are more minimalist and can get away with it. Whats the option on the cayman, leater dash(might be cool), CF doorsills(for squids).

In any event, the pcar comes with all the good stuff out the box, in fact you have to order the fat ass seats and delete the track ones, on the vette z06 its the other way around, which is my point. Different focus in terms of how they're offered.
So far the z06 impresses from what we've read, Ill wait for more critical reporting on both cars to form more of an impression. Ill also see them both on track which is where the real impressions are made. The Pcar we do know is significantly lighter, and importantly has a shorter wheelbase. On the other hand the vette is reported to now have a magic front end. the most precise accurate front end I have experienced (on track)
was a 570 GT4, but that was a pure race car, the rest of which was kinda meh. Maybe the vette front end is going to have the magic too.

There are two factors, objective and subjective. Right now a camaro zl1 1lt will absolutely cream a cayman Gt4 on big track, and Im not sure it woudl be different on small track eiter. But the cayman may well be more fun engaing and rewarding to drive. I have no idea whether the same applies to a z06 and Gt4rs. I do know that a c7 ZR1 will cream most cars for a few laps, but most people who drive hard and well on track would rather be in a Gt4.

the Guy in the camaro who was running 2 mins flat at the Glen said his dream car was a Gt3 or 4rs. Im hoping the z06 in some form changes that equation.
As i said many pages ago multiple times, would be great to be able order a z06 with the good aero and suspension, track seats and less frippery, maybe in a few years according the the vette rep I saw at LRP. Currently its more of a rich old mans spec, makes sense given the average age of vette owners.

I can see some version of the z06, minus the pointless frunk and a sduct, with attendant more aero in the rear and a few less lbs. I bet they have tried that already.
i guess given the huge backorders for the 99.6% who wont drive this car in anger on track, why bother now. One thing is for sure, the z06 is going to be more fun and durable on track than any current ferrari. Reminds me of the time I was doing some fast laps in a 599 and there was a c6 z06 out and I was wishing I was in the C6.

  25. When I had my 991 GT3 and 991.2 GT3RS, I was tracking about 2 days / month. My local track (Thermal, CA) has three different "courses" and if combined all three, it would be about ~4 miles in the GT Circuit confirguration. My average times are around 2:46. For context, a 991 GT3 R did the same course in about 2:31.

Are PCCBs more expensive? Of course, but not significantly more than OEM iron rotors. I'll give you some context. A friend of mine who is a complete track rat (about 5-7 days per month) had more engines replaced (3) in the 991 GT3 than replacement PCCB rotors (0).

Pretty sure Cup cars are running iron rotors b/c of BOP regulations, not because of cost.
