I was watching All Girl Garage Saturday, well more like had it on while I was doing other things and they were working on a jeep as a car for college kids. They opened the glove box and swapped the cabin filter. I said to myself... hey those look an awful lot like the needed 348 opening size.

I found that the cabin filters have a very loose tolerance that is BrandA for the same exact car may be 1/4 shorter or narrower than BrandB for the exact same car cabin filter.

Fast forward and here is a filter and part number that drops dead nuts in and rests on the extended plastic edge of the opening and of course does not interfere with the flap. The recirc flap stops on the same extended plastic edge that the filter rests on, just on the other side of it.

I will admit the filter quality of the filter is not amazing but you know what its better than.. not having a filter, that's what. Cost like $12 for box of 2 I ordered from ebay got here in 3 days. :)

For clarity, the cars did not come with one, not even sure the idea existed back then. That does not mean it is not a good idea, it affects cabin air quality. The issue is finding one that actually fits. Well there you go should one be so inclined. Sure seems like it was made for one but the factory forgot to put it in launched the car the said "oh what the hell forget about it now",

Now, by all means anyone can feel free to ignore and not put a filter in a place that seems to be designed for one and keep breathing un-filtered air, of course that's perfectly acceptable to those that want accept it.

    Just sharing info.

I get it, makes sense. That said, not everyone lives in perfect weather but even so, if you get stuck behind a smelly truck in stop and go freeway traffic one day and you do put the windows up as rare as that may be for some, you'll quickly find you'll wish you had a filter. :)

If not people can opt to not put one in and save the $12. Everyone wins, no losers here.:)

    Great thread because I have a 2011 Liberty Renegade AND a 348. :)

Unfortunately, the former got pelted pretty badly yesterday. Near softball-sized hailstones during the first of three hail storms during a 2 hour period.

    Local video (not mine).

Now be aware that some Liberty filters form other brands may not fit exactly right.
Oddly a filter for a specific car varies in size across various vendors.
The one above from Mann fits like a proverbial glove. I have others that are almost 1/2" smaller.

I'm not sure I understand how the filter catches the airflow. Does it filter fresh air or only recirculated air?

Does the airflow go something like this?

On Left Hand Drive cars, is the fan on the right side of the car?

Only fresh air in gets filtered not recirculated air. For fresh air, it filters out pollen and dust.

Thanks. I understand now. I wasn't sure if your photograph showed the filter in its final position.

If they are too small some of that spongy sticky weatherstrips for doros will take up the gap and seal nicely

Heck I just ordered cabin filters for all 3 our daily drivers now

I have always felt it needed a filter. It will get wet in rain I believe ?? Not that I drive mine in rain, unless I get caught in it. Nice find.

For Australian F355 owners... I just fitted a "Transgold TCF212 cabin filter" to my Australian F355 '98 Spider and it's a perfect fit. It just needed a bit of flexing to get it past the lip on top of the fresh air inlet/fan assembly. I bought two filters on eBay from a New South Wales source for A$24 (postage and GST included in the price). The eBay site said "Cabin Air Filter 2010 - For Dodge Nitro - KA Petrol V6 2.7: 7W [JN]". The box says it's compatible with Jeep part number "WACF0141".

It's a pity it doesn't come in black to match the fresh air inlet/fan assembly.

Thank you for the post. One more reason is to prevent the evaporator getting plugged up with dust. I have had this in other applications where the filter was removed , also a couple manufactures ( dodge ram comes to mind) didn't come through with a filter but had the provision for it.
