Caffeine & Octane

Unfortunately what originated as a nice simple gathering in Roswell, car guys looking to have a nice Sunday...... the event turned into an abomination. I'm sure these guys (of which a few of us were part of in the ealier years) didn't need "sponsors", websites with sponsorship, nor vendors with tents to come into play, no reserving 10-20 spaces for your car club, no crap flyers on and in your car........it was nice and simple. You could get there at 830, enjoy some coffee, and shoot-the-breeze with other lovers of autos.

(And now it is gone, again)

 

And what do you base this information on? It is not showing up on any other forums that I have searched?

 

I saw that Mick had posted it on the Lotus forum also.........I do not remember where he got word from.

 

+1, the car clubs have really gotten out of hand...who really wants to see 15 stock/slightly modified Dodge Challengers in a row?

One suggestion that has been made before is the large lot beside and behind Miller's Ale House, on the other side of GA-400, where the monthly "Kewlrides Runnin'" gathering is also held. With the old Expo Center having closed there, there is a very large lot that gets no use.

 

I stopped by this month and I have to say I would have to be in a very spirited mood to go again if it was at the same place. It was a mad house. I took my son thinking I could grab a coffee and him a hot chocolate but the line out the door was crazy. Plus walking around I saw very little of the car (very few cool ones anyway) because I had to watch from running into people or vendor tents. Not what I pictured it to be.

 

I've suggested it before but I still think we need a location away from retail shops and their normal patrons. As the morning lingers on we annoy these people with our loud smelly cars by getting in their way.

There are loads of unoccupied office and industrial parks that could be utilized on a Sunday morning for a gathering without annoying the customer base of the retailers that pay leases on the areas we have used in the past. I know some people like the idea of being able to swing into a shop and buy coffee but these services could easily be provided by vendors that would be willing to travel to the site of the event.

Perhaps if an out of the way office park or industrial area could be found we could try and convince some of the new food trucks in Atlanta to come out and serve the event.

I also agree that swaths of spaces being taken up by vendors and sponsors is pointless. If I want to know where to go to overpay for a set of tires I can find Butler without a tent taking up valuable room at a car show.

what's up with that gallardo taking up 2 spaces when I see other more expensive cars taking up 1.

 

....same reason I've seen em' even in Cobb hold-a-space for someone when I was looking for one. I should have just backed in and told em to bad. (My thought is, hey if your friend is late, tell them to get a better watch)

 

It's a numbers thing. The more that show up the better the odds you get some jerks/idiots out there.

Ya know....... there is nothing that says we (as in we-here-we) can not just up-and head to the old location on some Sunday moring, grab some coffee and such from Panera.......

Paying customer(s) and no large crowds.

Need to remember this probably started as exactly the same....... "Hey, what are ya doing tomorrow morning........lets meet and have a cup-o-joe?

I recomend the abandoned Border Books location across from Phipps Plaza. sunday AM there is nobody there, close to all the major roads. sadly not much coffee.

 

Like the concept about Borders/Phipps. issue for me is it is such a ***** to get in and out of that parking lot. Steep approach angle and right on a curve.

But worth a shot.

 

I know exactly the entrance you are talking about, but I think the entrance off Peachtree is better. And as far as coffee goes.... there is a Starbucks right up the street.

If the guys from this site band together and do just a italian meet the 1st sunday of the month at that location, i'm in.

 

Or British..... or German. And ah throw in a little French.

Now that this thing has sponsors, insurance, rules - I don't know. Next they will have a Board of Directors. Sell Caffeine & Octane Workout Tapes.

Guys auditioning for roles in the next Jackass movie didn't help.

Better with no rules, no nothing. Show up when you want. Leave when you want. Drink a cup of coffee. Look at cool cars. Talk to nice people.
