Calgary: looking for info on a DIno in the 70s

I've owned my '72 Dino (#2966) for almost 40 years. I thought it would be interesting to track its history.

I've gotten as far back as 1978, when it was purple with gray velour interior and living in Calgary. It may have been for sale in the Auto Trader.

Alberta's vehicle registration records only go back to 17 digit VINs, so they weren't able to help.

Ring any bells? Anyone have suggestions where to look or who to ask?
