I just got a new car with the K40 already installed. It is my understanding from Earmark that the K40 is a radar detector and jammer. Texas outlawed jammers in 2011 and there isn't a way to de-activate the jamming function only.

Please pm me if you have any experience with getting pulled over with a K40. I am trying to figure out if I should keep it or play it safe and have it pulled out and hook up the v1.

    That would be my advice.

You gonna share what you bought? Did you part with the CLS?

Thanks for the advice. You haven't steered me wrong...yet. Yes, I parted with the CLS. Ian gave up the cello this year so no need for the school bus anymore. He thought it would be a good idea to give it him as a daily driver. We didn't.

    New ride is a DB9.

Only you would consider that car a school bus! My wife will hang out with you if you'll drive the DB9, she loves those cars. :)

I actually need to install some kind of radar device and laser diffuser. Can't these be somewhat "stealthy" installs? What's the consensus on best solution and local installer?

    Thanks!

Laser diffusers are now illegal in TX to use or to sell. Radar detectors are not. No need for a stealthy install for a detector. Just hardwire the V1 into the overhead light and it is out of your way. I have 5 V1's. They are the way to go. The Calibre without the diffuser can be integrated into the front grill...will run you a couple of grand.

There is always the simple option of just driving the speed limit or setting ones 'cruise control to the speed limit". I'm just saying.

Plano is notorious for speed limit changes on the same stretch of road and even one street over to another. Preston Road alone changes 5 times in a several mile stretch from 55 down to 30. Try keeping up with those changes - not so simple.

Seems to me that a person who uses cruise control would tend to be more oblivious to their surroundings... than someone who would use a radar detector to actively acquire additional information about their surroundings, while actually driving their car.

-I HAVE NO FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE-

But I've never seen any test of any kind by any magazine or other 3rd party that thought the K40 was any good. On the other hand, I've never seen a test that didn't rate the V1 very highly.

I've always thought the K40 was the solution for those with more money than sense.

I agree Dave. Half my cars have cruise, half don't. I never use cruise control period. I like to drive my cars, not just ride in them. But then you already know that about me. Call me when you are back in town. You are overdue for some f1 watching and Ribeyes on the grill.
