now that some of the reviews are in, how will the cali stack up against possible competition?

amg sl63 is obvious one as both have folding hard top. i think the amg will be faster straight line but cali will have better feel. lack of prestige since regular sl's are seen in every upscale mall in world. interesting to see how the 2 transmissions compare.

p turbo cab will also be faster but lack style and soft top not as snug. doubt the pdk will be as sporting as the cali's. am db9 is again soft top but better style, great sound, high prestige. this is a tough choice. only neg is its similar to xkr which means the jag may be the best value in the class. bentley really too big but cali may seem more youthful to cross shoppers. wonder if maser will ever produce a drop top version? that may be best of sportiness, value, prestige, etc. bet it will be soft top though.

other opinions? cars i left out?

SL63 is a 2 seater with limited practicality. The trunk is pretty small with the roof up or down. Resale is pathetic and it's a reskinned 7 year old car with new techno toys added in. I don't think you can compare ragtops with hardtops as the feel of these two types of convertibles are completely different. There really isn't any direct competitor to the California as far as I can see. The badge price puts it way out of the competition with likes of Volvo, BMW, Lexus and Infiniti, its practicality eliminates all variants of Mercedes SL's, the hardtop kills off the rest of the competition comprised of Aston Martin, Jaguar, BMW, Lamborghini and Porsche. In the end, the Ferrari California stands alone in the class of a 4 seater hardtop convertible luxury sporty car with a usable trunk. (lest Maserati GT Convertible retains its rear seats)
This will be the Ferrari that change the game.

This is also why it design bothered me so much. Had this car look anything like the Alpha 8C - Ferrari would have nearly a perfect car.
