    Dear all

I am writing to the CA Maserati members not just the QP III. I need to put an approved exhaust on my 1985. What I want to do is "cut in" CA CATS into the existing exhaust but I am getting frustrated as the CATS need to have a number on them that matches the car and there are no numbers for the 1985 Maserati.

It is a 2 CAT system on the car and I did find one listed for a 1982 which should be the same but I am at an impasse. Surely someone here has had to do their exhaust.

As a former resident of California I would caution you with the following.

    1. California is THE most difficult place in the USA (possibly the planet) to deal with emissions issue on older cars.

    2. They do not allow modifications to the original system. Period. Improvements are not accepted.

So get an original system and have it installed.

Or find someone who knows of a cooperative referee.

If you're going to Monterey next week that's a great place to ask the question.

    Have you tried asking MIE?

Even if you get the original exhaust and everything is working as good as can be it likely will not pass the new smog rules effective Jan 1 2012. Most cars the would pass last year will not pass now. My advise is get it smogged and lic in Nevada or Az

Hmmmm Car is actually very very nice. A few issues but really a good example. Everything is crisp and as new. I will send some photos. Thinking of taking it out of the US back to the UK and finishing it up there. Calif should be encouraging people to keep their CA original classics at home not forcing them out of the country!!!

    Ciao

No kidding. But then we are broke so the cars are cheap and California would love to see cars like that leave the state.

William, all 3 of my qpiii's have been in california the earlier cars had 2 cats and the later ones I believe had four cats. None of the cats had any labels or numbers that I remember and if they are in similar locations, the local smog stations will just make sure they are in place. I had one pass smog last September, a 1980 and it needed no special work. The smog station was surprised how much the state allowed for 1980 models. I will pm you with other information that is crucial in passing in California.

I impressed on them the similarities between the 82 which had cats listed and the 85 and got them to accept that so we got it done but not in time for me to take the car to Concorso Italiano in Monterey. Maybe next year!!
