California radio/install advice

I just bought a 2010 California for my girlfriend to drive and like many the radio does not function in any way other than the DVD deck opening and closing (nothing lights up or turns on).

The replacement appears to be pretty involved with the bottom of the dash needing to be removed to access the radio bolts.

So, I was thinking of upgrading to apple car play. I can’t seem to find an install diy or much info about how this would hook up. I’m sure most of the secrets surround getting everything integrated with the car and radio, which I don’t care too much about as long as the radio works, the factory backup camera works, and it doesn’t throw any weird warnings.

Can I just plug it in or is there more to do?
