I was just cruising through North Wales, PA and saw a happy looking California owner going in the other direction.

Its a good looking car, but its not nearly as striking as other Ferrari models. Its unique in shape and but it doesn't cause car accidents from heads snapping to get a better look at its lines. Its a Ferrari but it doesn't go down the road announcing its presence like a F40/F50 or Testarossa/512. It seems to be a Ferrari for those who don't want to announce to the world they're driving a Ferrari. (if that makes any sense)

I've just started hunting for my first Ferrari, will disclose more on that later.

Sadly no, it was going the other direction and its not like I am going to pull a u-turn to check it out. That and I am pretty sure the 6" concrete divider would have done a number on my A8L. I am looking a couple of different F-cars. 308, 328, 348, maybe a Testarossa. It will certainly my fun car. I did drive a 430 coupe with a tubi, and loved it. I am mostly an Audi guy but I've always wanted an F-car.

Was the California red with the top down, around 1PM today (Sunday)? If so, it was me returning from playing golf (bad round, don't ask my score).

I also noticed a 430 heading toward Rt 309 on Sumneytown Pike as I was heading north. Nice day for F-Cars.

It might not cause your head to snap but I can tell you in the month since I have picked her up I have had tons of compliments from everyone wanting to take a closer look. I never received that response when I was driving my SL.

My daily drive is the Audi S6...a V10 with 435 hp. Before the S6 I had the A6 with a 4.2, likely the same motor as your A8L. Felt like I needed more HP. I also have a Audi TT roadster with a 3.2 motor (the bigggest they make for this tiny drop top). I love the convertible top but the TT is a V-6 with 250 hp. Needed more of a convertible GT experience..... so I have the California, got it about two weeks ago. Awesome, ridiculous, best GT car made right now hands down. Its loud, fast, and can be furious. Thats mine under the "driver impressions" thread here on Fchat.

The Audi is an awesome car -- your A8L is a beautiful car. But when you jump to the F car take a hard look at the Cali. It may not be bolder than the F cars you mention but for the GT experience, top up or top down, it can't be beat.

Your California is a very nice car. There is no such thing as a bad round of golf when you get to go home in a Ferrari California. It was about 1pm today, I was wrapping up cleaning up my A8. I was in Durham and Charlotte for a week on business so my car got neglected. I passed you right by The Sumney and the old Sunoco. I can't wait until they clean up that stretch of Sumneytown Pike. Tired of playing dodge hole. Here is my DD.

Just what Ferrari likes to hear, conquest sales from other makes. Only 40% of California buyers previously owned a Ferrari. How long ago did you order the car?

I ordered it in March and refined the specs until it had to be locked in, sometime around June. I took delivery on 8/31.

Thats pretty quick turn around. I am starting to dig into the world of 308's and 328's. Wife won't let me go neck deep money wise on a car just yet. So far I am really impressed with the amount of knowledge on this forum. I am hoping to keep a sub 60k budget with room for repair expenses etc. I also want to leave financial room to build up my garage-mahal.

Btw careful on Sumneytown it appears they started digging some new holes, I am surprised I have taken one of my 20's out on it yet. I have two spare 20's in the basement, but I'll be switching to 18" blizzak snows shoes, in a few weeks so they wont be as much of an issue.

I know you get a bit more attention in the California, has it attracted the bad kind of attention? Law enforcement etc.

The 6 month time line seems pretty reasonable.

So far I have been very careful pushing the "speed envelope". The owner's manual wants you to keep it below 5K rpm until you hit 650 miles. I have been above it briefly twice but I don't want to push too hard. Secondly, the UG cops are really giving out the tickets so a red F-car would probably be a nice notch on their belt. That is another reason for caution. With that said, once I cross 650 miles it will be just a matter of time before I make my "contribution" to their ticket fund.

I think the 1979 308 is a beautiful car, but you should get a 430 coupe.
