Hi, I've been a lurker on this forum for a few years, and now really have the bug for a California T. Travelled 4 hours down to Newport Beach to talk to the guys there on Wednesday, and was told that, by luck, a pre-production model in "ruby red" was coming the next day. I was thrilled with the good timing and planned to come back Thursday. Later in the day, while driving right by the dealership, lo and behold, the car was being taken off the truck! Made a quick, and barely legal, u-turn and headed back. Got these pictures in the lot with my phone. The pics inside the showroom were not good at all. Pat in Sales only knew what he was told of the color: ruby red. I believe it's the new Rosso California and it is spectacular in the sunlight. You can see the vast contrast to the Rosso Corsa California it's sitting next to. Inside the showroom, it looked darker with maybe a brownish hue, but is still great looking.

Maybe next year for me, because a Ferrari is still a stretch, but a long-time dream of mine. Love all the info picked up on FerrariChat.

Needs different wheels and a single color paint. Looks rather good otherwise.

It is Rosso California. I was fortunate enough to be invited to see it and asked. One of two new California T specific colors.

Yes, it was started up gingerly to move from the parking lot to the showroom. Very throaty sound, of course no high revving. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I loved the sound.

My bet is that the T will sound better than the Porsche TT (as always)...but will it sound better than the Cali, Cali 30 et al?

The Cali 30 does not sound as good as a Maserati GTS, So I doubt that the Cali T will sound as good as a 30 but, I am certain it will sound marvelous !

Forgot to mention that, despite taking great care to start and move the car, I was later told it had over 8000 miles on it, and was theorized to be a test track car, because the rear tires were almost bald. But you sure couldn't tell by looking at it; paint was pristine.

Just placed my order for one today. Doing the Rosso California exterior. Nero Interior with Rosso California stitching if I can get it. My salesman didn't know the price of the paint yet either lol.

Shouldn't be more than $37,000 or so, I'd think...those stitches, though, could really cost a bundle lol. Seriously, though, congrats. I thought my next one would be Rosso Fiorano, but the Rosso California looks great.

Looking forward to seeing this color for myself...I really like it in this pic...much better than the shots we've seen under artificial light where you couldn't see as much depth. Agree that the black roof definitely does not belong with it. Thanks for posting.

Sorry, subtle humor attempt. With the $2,300 cup holders and similar outrageous pricing metrics for options and add-ons, I thought I'd take what would be an insanely high price, and then doubled it to get my "number". Of course, when we can go online to find out, it might be closer than I would think.

Haha, okay... I believe the triple layer paints are like an $11,000 option so your humor is well warranted... :)

I know the wheels has some minor pattern on it but damn those wheels looks like it was "designed" 50 years ago.

Just spent 30 minute with the new California T in Shanghai.
The color is the same, it is pearl or metalic like color for both red body and black top which means the color have some sliver powder that reflect under light.

I feel the engine sound have higher pitch during idle, less low frequency bass than non turbo version. The engine have higher pitch during rev up also.

So I guess the smaller volume engine loss some low bass sound just like speaker.

When you open the front cover, you will find the engine is also half the size as the current model. The battery used to be completely cover in the old model, but is fully open now. So the good news is you can switch battery like most normal car, but the bad news is, you won't able to show the typical big bad ass Ferrari Red engine like California non turbo or 458.

If you look under the front cover of BMW car in the last two year, you will find the same change. The BMW 2.0 Turbo engine that use in the current 525/528/530 is a lot smaller than older model which used the BMW inline 2.5 and 3L L6 engine. The complete full engine compartment is now half full and half empty.

The California T inside is more refine than the current model, and I also like the new turbo meter in the center of dashboard.

I prefer the growl at low revs so a higher pitched idle would seem unfortunate but I'll have to hear it in person. As you say, a smaller volume engine would naturally sound higher pitched.

Contrary to some other people's preferences I like the black roof/red body colour scheme but I might pick an after-market wheel in gun metal with titanium bolt accents instead of the 5-point starfish 20-inch factory wheel. I prefer the 599 GTO look. The California is a derivative design from the 599 and I think a GTO halo effect is preferable to the new direction of the starfish look.

Yeah, I noticed that. The NA V8 of the older car also has a much cleaner look to it but its battery location is a biachi, isn't it?

I'm not sure about improved interior refinement from looking at the photos but the new cockpit is busier and features more details. It may also be the car you saw has a black interior/red stitching with lots of upgraded trim like the one shown in the HK photos. OTOH. the new steering wheel certainly is more refined.

I do not like the turn signal/wiper stalks of the older car as they sometimes interfere with the F1 paddles. They are also too stubby and the turn signal stalk is too quiet - I sometimes forget to cancel it if it stays on. The steering wheel signal indicators should work better with the paddles.

As for the centre bridge with the 3 buttons for AUTO, R and LC I prefer the older car's. I understand the new layout draws inspiration from the F12, LaF but IMO the old one looks and works better. It also works better as a grab bar for the passenger when you get a bit too frisky in the corners.

I'm ambivalent about the turbo boost gauge. I don't really like the design and location. It sort of messes up the classic air vents. I think they should have modified the speedometer and I suspect they simply wanted to emphasize the turbo boost display and made room for it.

The new coffee cup holder accommodates the bigger cups/bottle currently in vogue but I only drink water and have a good Thermos that works well with the elegant tuck-away holder in the older car.

Thanks for your impressions. Perhaps you can record an audio of the car's engine and exhaust note if you get to fire up the car again.
