    Hi all - seasons greetings!
So after 3 months of research and going around the houses on 458 / F12 / California I finally decided that a late MY Cali T was the best place to start my Ferrari journey.

    https://video.citnow.com/vtg3yS0kqPX

I managed to find this Atelier HS car and I’m really delighted. There were a couple of nice surprises - one being that I can operate the roof even when moving - albeit slowly. She is far more exciting and fiery than I was expecting.

On the latter point I have been surprised at how much wheelspin and “tail-wag” I’m getting when accelerating hard in low gears albeit in damp conditions. I’ve experienced this in Sport - which didn’t surprise me but also in Comfort - which did surprise me. In my old Nissan GTR the traction control / ASR would cut in which I’m not seeing in the Cali. I was wondering if ASR might be switched off somehow?

    Thanks
    Rob

Thanks - I've double checked the manual but I think it's just a case of too much right foot when cold / damp!
I think the Ferrari system probably allows more wheelspin / tail wag than other marques which isn't altogether surprising either!! I will continue to experiment... :)

Wait until you have the ECU tuned and add back all the power that Ferrari removed in gears 1-6 (over 100 lb-ft taken out in gears 1-3).

My 575 gives me a bit of tailwag in 1st and 2nd in the dry, even without sport button pressed, one of my favorite things about the car! But in the damp I think u can get spin/wag in a lot of cars. Even my cayman with only 280lb torque can slip quite a bit before Esc sets in

You MUST make sure your tires are sufficiently warm (at least 85*) before doing any spirited driving. Also check your tire wear, if you bought the car and haven’t replaced the tires, I’d buy a new set of tires immediately.

I highly recommend the Kumho PS91 supercar tire over the Pirelli PZero or Michelin Pilot Sport…they perform just as well, if not better (particularly at the track for street tires!), and it doesn’t hurt they’re also half the cost.

In my 2016 California T in dry conditions I would get some tail wag when hard acceleration in 2nd.

I give this advice on UUHP these cars are fitted with p zeros as std and as these are summer tyres people drive there cars on dark morning and evening roads. the operational temperature is 15 deg C (65f) with the lower operational limit of UUHP summers around 7 deg C (45f) in dry conditions down to 3 deg c (35F) there is a loss of adhesion but unless it's wet it isn't significant. from my research in wet conditions below 45 deg c grip and braking is a bit compromised but the exponential loss to about 25% of the tyre performance as you go from 45-35F in wet condtions.

Please don't think UUHP tyres unless its a all-season version are great all the time at night and mornings it may be the outside temperatures are heading below the lower operational performance limit of the tyre you can still drive but the rubber is stiffening and it adhesion properties decreasing. I recommended to my friend to burn the values of 65/45/35 and below into his memory and said your asking your car to run in high heels instead of trainers and maybe comfort is the better way today. especially as its January at the time of writing this. just be careful of liftoff oversteer.

and if your on p zero corsa or michelin cup 2 heavens help you in the wet at 35f just because its a track tyre doesn't make it a good tyre its optimised for a very niche window of operation. summer dry for these. of course if you want tail happy maybe this is excactly what you want. :p moving away form the UUHP into a track or a UHP tyre pilot sports as opposed to pilot sport 4s or a high speed rated but lower adhesion rated tyre if your looking for a more edgy experience not to mention less control.

also you didnt say about the car on 19 or 20" i.e the contact area

Which tyre is on the car, and what is the date codes?

What temps are you driving in?

What is your cold tyre pressures?

A few short answers to these questions are needed to properly help you.

I will say this. Being it MPSS, MPS4S, or the PZero. None of them were ever designed to work below 10 C. And if it's wet or damp, forget it.

But answer the questions and we are better off for giving you proper feedback. Without that info, it's all just speculation.

Great and very special car, mine is crying out for those yellow belts. Love the salesperson's accent, she could sell me a moped for $10K. What's life without a little wheelspin, separates us from the Smart cars.

Hello folks, I was just passing through the threads and found this very informed response on the UUHP tires. Very good stuff here!
