Never bought one before but I figure it is a good way for me to call the gf on her cellphone while she is in Paris for the next 5 months.

    Any advice?

I've been using www.pinzoo.com for a few years for online "phonecards," and have been totally happy with their rates and service. I'm not sure if they can be used to call *from* France though.

Interesting. According to the website it would be as follows:

    Calling from U.S.A. to
    France 3.2¢/min
    France - Cell 29.1¢/min

There is a huge difference between calling a landline and a cell. Any experience with getting around that large gap?

I know she just picked up a cell today and I don't think she has a landline in her place.

10x more expensive to call a cell seems a bit out there. But what do I know?

Ok, so I went ahead and got one for the meantime.

    9cents/min

    3min rounding

    15% tax

    Is that bad? Lol :)

Your cell phone provider may give you a good rate. I have Cingular, it is .31 a minute to a cell and .07 per minute to a land line in France but for 3.99 a month they will discount that. I don't know what it is after the discount.
